This is wack.... This is the first MMORPG I have played that has such limited customization. This is riduclous... can't they allow us to look more unique? So we can only dye our armor? So... no cosmetic clothes to wear over our armor and everyone has the same face?!!!!!!!!!

Ugh. I'm guessing there will be a lot of this kind of thread, with kids rushing over from shitty MMO's and complaining that this game isn't about flaunting your e-peen by how much real-life money you spend...
There will be armor dyes. There will be thousands of pieces of equipment. There is no "best" of anything, you change your armor and weapons to suit your build and playstyle on the fly, so nobody will ever look the exact same. It's a top-down game, anyway, and there's no need for details when you're decked out in armor.

like Orgazmo said, Diablo III isn't a MMORPG. It's a single playered RPG game that has certain features from popular MMOs such as the Auction House.
It's kinda said that people bought this game without knowing what kind of game it was going to be.

Knowing quite a few people of D3 haven't even played D2 makes me feel old! Some of them probably weren't even about when it was released!

Lol adchick I was surprised by the amount of people who were interested in D3 who hadn't played D2! Not that that's a huge deal of course.
I also play WoW but I'm never too concerned with how my player looks. As long as they are the strongest and can kick some magic ass then I'm content. Like loading up on 20 +1 to lightning spells charms. That was the shit.

Does it really matter what you look like? Diablo is about how powerful you can become, not how you look when you strut your witch-doctor ass down the proverbial runway. There is insane variety in Diablo's armor, items, and weapons; each one has different effects, stats, and look, you just have to have patience to find something bad ass.

Well in Diablo 2 you weren't able to customize your character either and you were still able to look awesome so it doesn't really bother me tbh.

So far it seems gear looks is based on the levels of the items and the difficulty. You can dye them though but I'll see to what extend you can customize when I actually get anywhere in the higher difficulties/lvls.

At least you can choose your sex in D3. You didn't have that choice in Diablo or D2. If you were a mage in Diablo 1 you were male, if you were a wizard in diablo 2 you were female. Be glad that you can at least make that choice this go around.

Which, hey, that's cool. Because I'm a visually aesthetic person and an indecisive one at that. I used to socket all the new armor I picked up on my Necromancer in D2 with rubies just to walk around all red-tinted and whatnot.

I think customizing the look of a character has nothing to do with the MMO vs non-MMO debate, or e-peen really. You can do pretty good customisations of your characters in most modern (and even many ancient) single player RPGs. For me, I'm disappointed you can't customize your character with your own choice of things like hair colour, hairstyle, facial hair style and colour, facial features, and build. This is an RPG, building your own vision of how your character looks and behaves is one of the absolute fundamental cores of classic role playing (people used to spend oodles of time describing their characters in detail in the old pen&paper RPG days). I mean, if I wanted to play a female bearded Witch Doctor, why not!!!
Sure D1 and D2 didn't have this, but this is 2012. Don't tell me the inability to customize a character is a tribute to D1 and D2
. I think one potential reason D3 doesn't have this is that the main focus of the franchise is hack and slash, not so much immersion into a role play world, but its still disappointing IMO since so many people will play the game and Blizzard had the funding and expertise carried over from WOW to add a very powerful and feature rich character build system.

I don't see not being able to customize your character as a bad thing because, well, it isn't really "you" that you are playing. You are assuming the role of someone else, and being put in there shoes. If Blizzard wanted the person to look very specific, I don't really see the problem with it. It's just as if you were playing a LOTR game where you were Gandulf. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense if you were able to change how he looked, would it?
Granted, I know this isn't really the same thing, being multiplayer and all, but that's how I'm justifying it.
