During a panel at this past weekend's PAX Prime, Gearbox confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines wouldn't be an all-boys affair. Jennifer Redding, a lady character in the game, will be playable in co-op, and multiplayer will include customizable female marines.
An online petition that was started in an effort to push Gearbox into adding playable ladies is claiming credit for the weekend announcement. The petition, now over 3,800 strong, was started not long after Colonial Marines senior producer Brian Burleson claimed in an interview that the game wouldn't have playable female characters.
However, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stated that that the developer always had plans to add women. According to Pitchford, Burleson was actually referring to the E3 demo at the time, not the full game.
Also unveiled during PAX is Colonial Marines' Escape Mode, a play mode in the multiplayer. Check out the trailer below, and imagine more lady marines running around.
