Same with Mordecai. His Bloodwing is fantastic.

Yes, there are over 17 million guns in the game.

The best all around character would be Roland because his specialties don't really affect just one thing, they strengthen all parts of gameplay which makes him more versatile. His Scorpio Turret acts as a shield and I think can be a weapon. He can also use all weapons with various advantages here and there.

Mordecai is good because of his specialty with sniper rifles and Bloodwing.

Lilith is good because of her Phasewalk ability which lets her become invisible and quicker allowing her to move out of heavily hit areas, somewhat safely and once upgraded enough, it can even have an Area of Effect damage ring.

Brick isn't that great because he is mainly melee which can be easily overwhelmed by stronger or larger enemies but if you like that, try playing him. His skill trees don't do that much either since he is melee and they boost some stats or things like explosives and what not.

Hope that helps

Roland for first-time players. He has good survival capability, good damage, no real weaknesses, and his action skill (deployable turret) is convenient from start to finish unlike the others that, while powerful/useful in a pinch, aren't that convenient at first and need a little beefing up from the skill trees which can be a pain for first-time players.

Yeah everybody says Roland but I found Mordecai much more interesting. I love my setup, class mod gives a 75% boost to pistol fire rate, plus a skill which gives (from memory) another 30% to the fire rate, plus the relentless skill which adds another 20% to the fire rate, and the skill that gives every shot a chance to fire two bullets - add all of that with a pistol with a fire rate of 15+ and it's quite lol - the games sound effects can't keep up with the fire rate so the gun ends up being silent, it also lags badly and the bullets take about a second to hit the target which is quite funny.

I guess it depends on how you play.

I'm getting for x-mas(hopefully) too
I'm probably gonna play as Lilith cuz I think the Siren power kicks ass,but if i had to guess for another person I would say Roland because cover can be the difference between life and death and the fact that the cover fires bullets makes it a good plus.
Brick would probably be the best multi though because he can hurt the large enemies while friends take out the weaker ones.but once you get the stings like a bee perk he might be a very good single-player guy.
Mordecai might be good if your used to be careful with meticulous planning cuz then you can decide who to launch bloodwing on and who to snipe first.

But yeah playing style would play a big role in who you chose.Although in my mind Lilith would be good all-around character,Mordecai for snipers and strategist, Brick for melee maniacs, and Roland for the spray and pray.

I may not own the game butI do study extensively(staying away from learning yhr story though, thats gonna be the big surprise of the game) if i think it will be in my possesion soon.
I checked skill trees,watched vids on youtube,etc.

And in my opinion, although this is fairly loose, the leveling system reminds me of fallout, but the perks/skills r stackable and unlock other perks/skills,and the combat system reminds me of CoD.I find that combination to be quite freakin awesome.
anyways there my opinion on single-player charecters

Same for me stormthehouse. I haven't really put together any of the details I have gathered for the wiki or for posts but I definitely will be starting as Mordecai. He just seems like the best fit for my play style because he has the affinity for sniper rifles which I enjoy and with the modifying system, I am sure I can make it rapid fire for close up combat as well.

I like Lilith the most because she is cool and has a good ability in phasewalking, which can be helpful in some situations.

Mordecai would be a great first timer for you.

I played as him first time and he specialises in long range attacks, which means you can easily stay out of a lot of danger.

Bloodwing is also fantastic, you can eventually upgrade him to attack multiple enemies, make enemies drop stuff each hit (Great for money) and when he comes back to you he heals you.

Not the best in boss fights because of his low damage resistance, but Bloodwing and the accuracy/power of his weapons make for easy second winds.

Brick isn't a bad character, you don't have to use melee. I use sniper rifles and shot guns as brick; and he can take a whole lot of damage even before his shields drop

Just depends on how you play games.
Brick-close and strong at times. Action skill Berserker mode very powerful melee attack and invincible

Mordecai-Long range-Action skill Blood wing. Send out a bird to attack other enemies(usually rakks)

Roland-Medium/close- Action skill Scorpio turret. Send out a turret that attacks enemies on the ground.

Lilith-Medium/long-Action skill Phasewalk. Invisible and fast.

Just depends.

got game and have already made it completely through first play through
I had help for most of it
anyways i found the siren really useful espicially once i got the skillz that make me heal when phasewalking and extends my phasewalking time(add in my cooldown decreasers and a corrosive artifact of lvl 4 and its a rlly good charecter)
And if you get a weapon that has infinity ammo but needs to recharge it can shoot round corners so you can hide behind cover then get up close and let your phasewalk destroy them!!!!!

There are eighty-seven bazillion guns in Borderlands but at least eighty-two bazillion of them are mediocre. What they need is some way to take features from one and put it on another.

Another problem is that the developer lied about the rarity colours. It actually goes white < white < green < blue < purple < light gold < gold < dark gold < white.

The last white is a sad story for me. When I was in the Crimson place I found some kind of Thanatos pistol with only X2 corrosive. I was in a hurry and just left what I thought was a common crap gun. Only later did I discover that it was a "pearlescent" Thanatos which is probably the best machine pistol in the game. I'm still bruised from kicking myself and if I ever meet the developer they will get the same.

The question about "best" is not very specific. Each character may be better or worse for a particular purpose or in a particular area or level. It may be possible to come up with one choice that is easier overall but not an absolute best.

The siren is easily the best looking.

The berserker is the best puncher.

The sniper is the best at bypassing shields.

The soldier seems to be fairly good at everthing and in my experience seems to be the easiest one to complete the missions without dying.
