Yeah, wow. That is different.
Man, this is just going to be amazing. Academy world will be my new whore. (Huh...that was out of character) I mean, I usually spend hours in Item World, so it's nice that they added another 'world'.
What did it mean by 'class seating'?
Overall, that review was satisfying.

Not bad, some good review scores too.
Quick rundown and some comments by me below ^_^
I bet that since you can't exit before the 10th level, you won't have as tough a time (not that it was particularly tough). The "Academy World" will PROBABLY be a bit more forgiving.
Blech, they returned D2's tier system, where you have to level up previous tiers to unlock the next one, instead of being able to unlock the whole thing with any tier...Buuuut, there is a good reason (aside from stat points and stat proficiency), you learn more/better skills with the higher tiers, so that is a nice added bonus. Nice to see there will be some returning special skills, and on the whole, more skills. I'd like to see more magic related ones >_> Regular, Mega, Omega, and Tera (along with the Stat boosting/reducing ones) got old...
quote Excerpt
27 human classes, 20 monster classes, and 16 specialty characters including guests from Phantom Brave and Disgaea 1 & 2
Not a bad number of classes. 16 is a fair bit of specialty characters, though several are for the main story (or introduced in this game)...
Looks like stages are very much improved. Not sure how I feel about geo-blocks....
I hope there is a CoO3/4 type area, or rather, several types like it ^_^
Ah, looks like the main story is shorter this time around (though I imagine the increased complexity of the maps will actually make it take longer, overall). But the sidequest/bonus stuff looks like it has even more than before.
Too bad that NIS didn't really make much use of the PS3's power to improve character models much (though it seems some higher tier special attacks look great), and that the HD version of it isn't that much better. I personally was hoping for anime cutscenes, but it doesn't seem as if there are any (it isn't mentioned)....Hopefully NIS will eventually put more effort into making it good looking, with high rez character models and world designs that actually look high resolution.
I've said it before (I think in the information thread?), but I don't care much for the soundtrack for this game. I liked one track a fair bit, but that was about it...But some at least, may disagree, the review writer seems to think it is the best thus far. Looks like there will be more voice work for each character class (so perhaps a lot more than two sounds for the game to choose from when attacking)
Looks like they've added some details to the 'cursor over character' in game. About time...
On the whole, it looks like they've really expanded on the Disgaea gameplay and features ^_^
Since the PS3 doesn't have a whole lot of RPGs (particularly SRPGs), perhaps more people will get this. Though graphics whores will probably be turned off by the PS1-esque graphics....Can't really blame them though, even as a Disgaea/NIS fan, I'd hope for more....
BTW: As an aside, "Mao" (related to "Maou") means Demon King, I do believe. Based on my experiences with the anime Kyou Kara Maou ^_~ Though I bet at least some of you people know this already ^_^;;;

It's my understanding that, in each individual club, you are allowed to have certain characters sitting in different arrangements. The benefits come from having characters sitting next to each other, but only a limited number of people can sit next to any particular character.

Oh, didn't notice that Q. Yeah, it appears that seating arrangements in class affect 'relationships' and combo attacks with those characters.
Also, it seems there is no online gameplay? Well, that can be inferred by its lack of being mentioned in the review...
You never know, they could have it as an add-on content >_>

Heh, nice. It's cool that they added depth to the combo system. And to everything else.
I want it now.
(Speaking of the online thing; do you think they're still planing to use it with 'Makai Wars'?)

Ermmmm, I think you're out of touch a bit. Makai wars has been on the back burner for some time. It was originally a PSP title, I think. Then a PS3 title. And then it was put on the back burner in favour of.....Disgaea 3 I think?
They might never resurrect it....Though it is possible, after D3 comes out, they'll start it back up again...
I'd hope they do online battles with a Disgaea-esque type game....

Well, I only thought that from what 'Happy Goth' said in the 'online play' thread.
But yes. That would be very fun to pit your armies against other peoples via PS3 online. That, or if you could pick one character from yours, someone else picks one person from theirs, and you team up to go against an enemy.

You can do it via Ad-hoc on the PSP Afternoon of Darkness, and apparently you'll be able to do it online with the DS iteration *waves fist angrily*
There is always the possibility that it could be released as downloadable multiplayer pack >_>

I love Disgaea, but one thing i dont want to see is the felony system. I'd like to have it and gone! was rather more anoying than practical exept 4 the EXP. bonus yet that was hard to master.

It was kind of annoying to basically march your cast into a stage and stack them all up carefully, then toss'em in, and then do it 50 more times. :/
Plus the lettering was difficult to read.
I'm glad they did away with the traditional ability system. Maybe I can just teach some other random characters heal spells now and now need a dedicated priest/healer? That, and levelling up to get the finals is something I've never managed to do.

Sonic Flash. From what I've heard, this game is supposed to allow you to level up REALLY fast, if you have enough Staticians (or whatever it is, that boosts your EXP gains).....Even faster than in D1 >_>
I'll wait until I play the game until I give it a mini-review, but I dunno, I'm feeling somewhat hesitant about some of the changes (was the same with D2, and I never liked the Felony system)....
