the salute activates the SOP system which allows you to see where your allies are, even through walls, its the nano-machine technology thats inside all the soldiers in MGS4

Ah, makes sense. I remember hearing about that, but I never found out how it was activated.
It's unfortunate I never got an MGO beta key...

I've got the beta now, THE best online game I've ever played. I was elated to find that it was not the run-n'-gunner I expected. Much tactics are required, which is my specialty. I'm a fairly decent stealth soldier, if I may say so.
