Subject: in-game black screen(video card crash)
-------------------------------------------
K guys I've been looking all over Google with different key words trying to find a similar problem but ends up with nothing. So im gonna give it a try here in this forum. Here's the problem:
I play NFS:C on a laptop with AMDx2 1.9GHz,2gb RAM and NV Go7200,so i only play with low-medium graphic settings. I get this black screen when im racing from time to time:
-screen kinda freezes for a few seconds(maybe 1 to 5 sec)
-then screen turns black, actually the laptop display is turned off at this point (1 or 2 seconds)
-screen still black, but display is on cuz u can see the difference (another 1 or 2 seconds)
-at last it resumes to the race, and i play on
So this is the problem, i've encountered it a hundred times but havnt found the pattern behind it. At first i thought it's bcz the laptop doesnt have good cooling and the video card is overheatting which causes it to shut down (appears as a crash)as self-protection method.
However yesterday i just opened my laptop and started playing carbon and i got this black screen when the laptop is still cold. So clearly overheatting is not the problem.
can anyone give some suggestions on what might be the problem and maybe solutions by any chance?? ThanX in advance!
PS:i just found the v1.4 patch for carbon, im going to patch my game right now but it shouldnt be any help i assume...

i have the same problem on vista home premium, 2gb ram, nvidia nforce430/GeForce6150SE.
i did this:
. changed theme to windows classical (disabling all smooth stuff)
. updated my nvidia nforce
. on manage 3d settings - multidisplay/mixed GPU acceleration set to single display performance mode
then restart and actually running the game on compatibility with windows 2000, the black screen is appearing less, like 1 time or 0 per carreer, before it was like 5 per event.
good luck.
