Well I wasn't lying when I said Postmortem was probably one of the heaviest songs ever. But I just bought the Earache Thrash pack for Rock Band last night, and "Thrasher" by Evile is one hard *bleep*ing song on Expert, even hard is too fast. Its pretty intense. I couldn't finish it. But I did finish "Blackened" on Expert! I was totally psyched! I was hopin around throwin my fist in the air for a good 2 minutes. I've been trying to beat that ever since I bought it in January! Now I just need to beat "Ride the Lightning" on Expert...
Actually, I'm collecting old vinyls and I have all of Pink Floyd's LPs (including their compilations "Relics" and "Works"). I plan on acquiring all of Zeppelins LPs, all of The Beatles, Hendrix, The Who, The Stone, most of David Bowies, most of Deep Purples, all of KISS's albums up until they took their makeup off, The Doors, and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.
Its gonna cost some big bucks (especially a mint Sgt. Pepper which should go no lower than $200 I imagine) but its classic memorobelia that I'm into. Listening to vinyl is just so neat.quote Gregm
Someday I will create a list of my top 100 songs, and the top 100 songs I think exist in the world. Feel free to help me with the latter if you'd like.
I guess I could give you a hand. I have a huge list of my favorite songs in my profile. Feel free to check them out. I haven't updated it yet though with stuff from Strawberry Alarm Clock or Coheed & Cambria. Its been awhile. But all in all, "Echoes" is truly a work of art. I hope you've heard it before. Its great.
But I'm gonna consult with Big Boss on this project since he's a music buff as well (though we still debate if "One" is better than "Fade to Black"). I'll see what he says, if he doesn't post here first.

It's not my favorite song ever, but it is one of my favorite songs ever, and definitely my favorite Metallica song. But I may love it so much because I've actually seen the movie that the song is based on, and think the two are great alone. Either way, I still love the song.

AC/DC... my favorite band. Highway to Hell was great, but I just wish people knew more AC/DC songs. Believe it or not people, there are other AC/DC songs than Highway to Hell, Back in Black, and Thunderstruck.
That wasn't directed to you at all, the blode; more towards the posers who think that AC/DC made three songs in their music career. You just happened to bring up AC/DC.

Shoot To Thrill, Dirty Deeds, Money Talks? All good stuff.
In speaking of people "not knowing" a bands music, what the hell is up with Pink Floyd? Everyone always tends to huddle around The Wall and DSOTM and WYWH. Just listen to the radio. All they play is Another Brick in the Wall, Welcome to the Machine, stuff from just those 3 albums. I think I've only heard one song from another album once on the radio, and that was "One Of These Days", and that was 2 years ago. Doesn't anyone know anything from Piper At the Gates of Dawn? A Saurcerful of Secrets? Atom Heart Mother? Hell, Animals was probably the best album to play on the radio and they don't play it at all. I was realived though when I heard something from Meddle.
Radio stations suck.

Yeah yeah. I just can't see how that's better than Fade To Black. Second best [Metallica] song is either Sanitarium or Ride the Lightning. I just think that song is so badass.
Now for stuff that isn't so heavy and is a bit more classic, I'd lean more towards Space Oddity. Such a classic. Or for me, I've always enjoyed listening to Echoes. People don't like it because its too long and it has those strange whale cries in it, but if you just listen to it, you'd realize the song isn't about the music, its about the sounds.

I like Highway Star, Light my Fire. Over the Hills and Far away starts too slow for my liking.
As for the Pink Floyd discussion, I completely agree. All I ever hear is Welcome to the Machine, Another Brick in the Wall pt 2, and Hey You.
My favorite is definitely "Have a Cigar". Also, why do people not ever listen to Another Brick in the Wall pt. 3, I personally think it's the best part of them all.

My favorite Pink Folyd songs are from DSOTM and The Wall, but I'm not too big of a Pink Floyd fan, I like "Time" and "Comfortably Numb".
In other news, it took me 4 tries to type Numb correctly. >_<

I really liked the meaning behind the song. Sometimes war can be painted up to be such a glorious and necessary path to the point where people actually support war. People believe in serving their country and stuff, just like the guy from the movie that the song is about, and what does he get for it? A fate worse than death. I don't know, I guess I just really like the meaning behind the song, granted it is just one song among the bandwagon of anti-war songs. I also just love how the song goes. The opening guitar is so calm and cool. The vocals are done very well, and fit the mood perfectly. Then towards the end, they finally go nuts the way the usually do. For me, it's the perfect song.

I agree, but its just such a nice song. It reminds me of high school. I think Light My Fire has one of the best keyboard solos though. Its really awesome. And Highway Star is just...Highway Star. It just rocks. Nuff said.

And occasionally Run Like Hell, Learning To Fly, and Time. They really should have expanded the radio library songs. But then again, Pink Floyd hardly ever appealed to radio tuners. They just made what they wanted. Shit, Echoes, Atom Heart Mother, and Dogs took up an entire LP side (Dogs actually shared a side with Pigs On the Wing pt.1, but thats only 1:21 long anyways). But even still, they should have atleast put on some of the early stuff.

I like that part a lot. Its the most up-tempo part of the song. Though I do like the lyrics in pt.1 better.

Well there's a story behind One, and I like songs like that. It gives them an authenticity and segregates them from all the other songs which are usually just meshed together from feelings and at-the-moment life crisis'. However I like the mood behind Fade To Black better. I guess you could say that I can either relate to it, or it relates to me. Or, at one point in my life, it "spoke" to me. Either way, it means something to me. I think that One and Fade To Black have equally powerful lyrics though.
And in case anyone is interested, Rock Band will be releasing 6 tracks from Boston in the coming week, including "Smokin'", "More Than A Feeling", "Piece Of Mind" and 3 others. Now I wouldn't say I'm a huge Boston fan (as all their albums sound the same), but I do like a lot of their songs.

I can totally relate to that. It's funny how certain songs just seem to fit in with your life, or whatever the song is about is exactly what or how you are feeling.

I honestly think Boston's song "Long time" (Especially with the intro Foreplay) is an amazing song. I also love Peace of Mind and More than a feeling. I think Boston is awesome, despite their lack of recognition.
