And as for NES, there are cheat codes to tell to Tom Nook, and birthdays (yours), and plenty of other things as well.

No. A wrong Action Replay or Gameshark code could crash your game. A universal code, on the other hand, will not crash your game. If it's wrong Tom Nook will tell you that it's wrong, and to try telling him again.
Besides the universal codes, you can dig up NES games as well. It's kind of rare to dig one up, but I've done it once before.

You just have to be lucky. Make sure to look at that bulletin board in the center of the four houses where you live. Sometimes a villager will post that s/he buried an item in a specific spot. That's the first, and only time, I actually dug up a NES.
