The real question I need answered here is if I need to upgrade that card or not.. It seems to me that going from a 320MB card to a 768MB card would have to give me some performance increase. Also, there's always the chance that my 8800 GTS is damaged, but I don't know how to test that. I've never really tried tweaking my machine either because I was udner the impression it couldn't really increase your performance noticeably. Is this not true?

I have only had my current rig a couple of months and haven't really tested it with many games (just my usual stable - BF2, BF2142, HL2, Oblivion) and then lately Bioshock and Crysis. I have played both the MP beta of Crysis and the SP - SP was much smoother and obviously more optimized than MP.
I can play BF2, BF2142, HL2, and Bioshock with everything absolutely maxed at the highest resolution and get no lag - haven't really checked the FPS on these.
Oblivion is a resource hog and brings any card to its knees unless you tweak the hell out of the ini files. I can play it on the highest settings but still get screen lag from time to time - especially in battle.
Anway, back to the point. If you would be satisfied just dropping your settings, then I wouldn't spend the money on a new card. If you really want it, then more memory never hurts. The more the card can store onboard, the smoother it will be. The GTX only has slightly higher clock speeds than your card, but does have twice the memory.
However, as shadowj stated earlier, the difference isn't going to be so much as to justify the expense. I would just go ahead and wait for the 9 series cards rumored to be due out late this year or early next year if you are going to spend that kind of money.

You make a good point about those upcoming 9 series cards. When they come out, the prices of the current 8800s will probably drop. I can save a dime and still get an 8800 GTX. I guess it's settled, I can wait another month.
I've also been thinking about getting a new mobo, this Asus 650i has problems.

My Notebook runs it like a wet dream. Although i had to buy a tri-fan cooling base for the laptop i can run it at high specs with a full framerate.
BTW, since when was Bioshock considered an RPG? It may be just me, but i thought the game was cleverly disguised as a FPS. just nit-pickin.

In system requirement lab they dont say anything about my sound card but:
Sound Card
Minimum: Yes
You Have: Realtek High Definition Audio PASS
But in the demo I have no in-game audio
will the original game be the same??

Not sure about the no-sound problem, I remember Lord Sion having the same problem, not sure if he fixed it though.

and woot, 2 weeks I should have a nice 8600GTS, AMD 64 X2 6400+, 400GB HDD and 2GB mem coming my way (of course with a whole computer)...can't wait to hook that and Bioshock and Oblivion to my 32" HDTV and my 5.1 surround sound system

Stupid question: seeing as a guy with a GeForce 6200 and an AMD 2.2ghz single core played Bioshock at 15fps (even when the minimum hardware requirement was a 6600 and a 2.4ghz processor), what are the hopes of me playing Bioshock with the same video card with a gig of RAM and a P4 1.8ghz?

I've heard that they fixed those with a patch, though I would probably Google "Realtek High Definition Audio Bioshock" or something and see if anyone talks about it. I don't think there's a way to know for sure whether they fixed it, as I doubt they apply patches to the demo.

Alright, I was SO surprised it worked. It was playable with 11-20fps, just not in combat.
With everything low:
It seems my computer doesn't like the colour BLACK. I tried playing around with the settings, but none of them helped got rid of that ugly problem (the area in the white box is a good example)

Well then, that's interesting. The first thing I would upgrade there is the processor, but that probably isn't possible considering the motherboard and such, at least at a decent price.
It gives you something to look forward to some day, I suppose?
Edit: Oh, I took what you said to mean it wasn't playable in combat.

I did some googling and the fix is by deleting the Bioshock folder in Application Data, which didn't work for me. That problem is the only thing stopping me from buying the whole game, as i'm quite happy with the fps i'm getting.

I just installed the game on my new PC. Intel C2D E6550 @2.33Ghz, 2GB, ATI radeon HD 3850 256MB and the game looks absolutely amazing. I am not able to use DX10 because I don't have vista
Though ran "can you run it" and it is failed me on recommended mainly because it recommends 512MB
Either way the game runs faster, smoother and better than my old PC which was Intel C2D E6400 @2.13Ghz, 2GB, Ati Radeon X1600XT 512MB

It says I can, and it is even over the "recommended" line, but every time I try to start it, it shows the logo, then instantly gives me the "bioshock.exe has stopped working" notice, and shuts down. Any ideas? Because I really want to play it...
(BTW, I have Vista Home Premium)
