Subject: I can't plant things!

I've had the game for ages, and I just can't figure out how to plant things!
I have the hoe and the watercan, now all I need is to figure out how to sow/plant the seeds.
Please help, someone!

I don't have YIM and I don't know if anybody has contacted you yet, so I'll post it here anyway and maybe you'll come back and see it.
You have the hoe and wateringcan, so that's a start. You need to go to Daisy's shop and buy some seeds. Or, if you have a cat, look in your basket in the house and there may be a few assorted bags, but makes sure you chose one for this season.
Then, use the hoe to make a shape like this (each 'U' represents one space the hoe tills):

But I recommend the first one because it's easiest to look after. Next, get your seeds as the active item and stand in the very middle of the tilled area and press the use button, and your character will sprinkle some seeds. Finally, get your watering can and water each place OR (as recommended) by a sprinkler and use that. Water them every day (except rainy days) and they will be ready soon. Some plants will only grow once and once they are grown, pick them up and put them in the crop bin. Some crops will continue growing after being picked.

I've got the same problem. I can't seem to get my seeds to be my active item - they are in my inventory but I can't pick them up - any ideas? I have empty hands when trying to collect them but still no joy.

you have to go to the house, bottom left. there's a table. press A and change one of the items you're carrying for seeds
