The reason for the final fantasy people is completely due to the fact this game was made by "Square Enix" otherwise known as the comapany who also created FF.
P.S. My favorite ss is Cactus's. I cant remember the name though...

But you have to credit square enix, they kept out the FF people until you unlocked them.

His name is Cactuar. This isn't the first time Final Fantasy stuff was used in a past mario game. In Super Mario RPG, there was a side boss named Culex. He was a side-boss constructed from Final Fantasy bosses. When you beat him, the games plays the "end-fight" music from Final Fantasy. It seems that this time it is a bit more obvious that the stuff is taken from that series...
