I recently bought a 4th generation iPod from a friend of mine. Due to a corrupt file, I need to restore the iPod to original factory settings, but I don't want to lose the music he downloaded previously. How can I save the music files without paying $40.00 to a company that will fix/delete the corrupt file?

Very simple. Search Google for a nifty little FREE program called Sharepod. All you do is enable disk use in iTunes for your iPod and copy over the Sharepod.exe file to the drive of your iPod in My Computer. Then you run sharepod.exe from your iPod and it will decipher that god forsaken garble that iTunes creates. Hope that helps. If that isn't what you're looking for post back here and I'll give you another way to do it.

What's the message you get from your iPod? Is it a corrupt firmware file? If so, this support article should be of some help.
