Hmmm sounds like a fun thing to do while on campus connected to our network of thousands of computers lol. I'll have to look into it. Now i'm off campus and have my own private "network" to myself I am no longer seeing any iTunes libraries. In the dorms I would always see everyone on my floor who had iTunes, and from there my entire building (10 floors), but no further so far.

Song wise I have 1057, podcast wise I have 251, so in total, 1308 files.

I know it sucks moving off campus. When I moved in January to an apartment on THE VERY EDGE of campus and no longer see anyone's iTunes since I'm not on the university's network anymore. I once saw 43 different users on iTunes at one time. It rocked, there are 10 dorms and THOUSANDS of people who use the network. I love college.

I have 3469. Only because my University gives me free access to Napster, and I found a legal way to convert their files for use on my iPod. I can literally get any song I want on my iPod that is available on Napter, which is about almost every song. Quite convenient. Its legal to do what i'm doing which is nice.
Lol, so your the person I saw in the paper! j/k. Good find though, if you found a way.

Wait.

You have 2,648 songs on your ipod, and they only take up 500mb? That's like, less than 200kb per song.

5GB = 5000MB.

So if each song is equivalent to 4mb approx... 5000 divided by 4 =1250.

Unless of course he compresses his files into 8kbps or something.

Me, no iPod for me. I have a very cheap 256MB mp3 player but I like to hang here anyway.

But if I did have an iPod 20GB, then I would fill 3.040 GB of the total hard-drive.

Not really.

5gb = 1024mb (1gb) x 5 = 5120mb.

yeah i have a question kinda related to that

do memory cards/sticks that hold 256MB/512MB, only hold 250/500 MB

whats the extra space being used for? (like for a 256MB, whats the 6 for?)

I dunno. Memory is usually written like that (8mb, 16mb, 32mb, 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb, 1024mb) I think it has something to do with the b-kb, kb-mb, mb-gb conversion.

For the first question, I know flash drives use that space. I have a USB flash drive that is 512 but only has something like 486 on it. The space is being used for some hardware or something I believe .

1024, 1000, close enough >.<

Some MP3 players don't let you use all the space. The iPod does though.

My MP3 which is a crappy 256 only lets me use 247 of the space.
