Okay I accidentally deleted an album from my iTunes and I want to get it back. It is still on my iPod though, but I am afraid to connect it to my computer for fear that iTunes will auto-update it and erase everything that is no longer in iTunes. So HOW do you turn off the Auto-Update feature so that I can read the iPod like a drive??

This way I can put the lost album back into iTunes from my ipod!

Thanks!

Connect your iPod. As soon as your computer recognizes it, go on iTunes and hit the little x button on the little gray window at the top that tells what iTunes is doing at the moment. That will stop all operations at the moment so nothing will happen to your iPod. Now bring up the iPod playlist. At the bottom right corner of the screen there should be a little icon of an iPod by itself. Click it and it should bring up an options window. Check "Manually manage songs and playlists" then hit ok.

Hope that helps.
