Firaxis and mobile, a joining of two forces no sleep schedule can compete with
I've already lost countless hours in the past week to the newly released iOS title Ridiculous Fishing and her comes freaking Firaxis Games -- those Civilization V and XCOM Enemy Unknown guys -- announcing their own iOS game. Here's Haunted Hollow, a harrowing competitive strategy title that's free-to-play (there goes my only excuse not to pick it up) and also will coming out this spring.
Here's a short list of features that will be included in Haunted Hollow, according to the press release:
Build and rule a mysterious mansion that spawns freaky monsters, including Vampires, Zombies, Mummies, Witches and Reapers
Go head-to-head with rivals to scare townspeople, battle enemies, avoid angry mobs and seize control of the town
Power-up with each monster's own menacing powers and additional enhancements
Play single-player or multi-player by challenging friends, both through the Game Center and with Pass & Play
Choose from varying Haunted House architecture styles such as the 'Lost Temple' and 'Mad Scientist'
It's also worth mentioning the Firaxis uses the word "addictive" at least a couple of time in the press release, damn them. That company has an unholy understanding into how to keep me playing for one more turn, five more minutes. We'll all rue the day Firaxis decided to work on mobile titles.
In seriousness, let's hope that the mobile direction doesn't turn into the typical exploitative crap that developers can get away with here, but not on other platforms. Don't make us waste our time or money for inconsequential rewards, Firaxis. This could be one of the best or worst moves your company has made in years.
Look forward to more information on Haunted Hollow as we get further into spring, as it's likely a release date isn't too far off. It likely all hinges on Apple's licensing process -- the game could be out before we know it. In the mean time, check out the three screenshots we've been provided, or go back to drooling over the next Civilization V expansion, Brave New World.
