Amazing concept art, and underwhelming in-game footage
Development studio BitMonster officially unveiled their company's name today, along with the first trailer for their initial project -- Lili. The studio is said to be mostly made up of ex-Epic Games, including Gears of War gameplay designer Lee Perry, and will be putting out Lili in the coming weeks. Lili is an adventure/RPG built for iOS devices, and is touted to include some of the best looking environments you'll find on a mobile device.
Included in Lili's profile are a few pieces of concept art that, to be frank, look brilliant. The way the world seems to bend around the bright white figure is very alluring, and the rich, deep greens in the maze-like backgrounds are very beautiful. The concept, sadly, stand in stark contrast to the in-game footage and screenshots, which are quite realistic, though with a painterly quality to them. Still, they're very impressive considering they come from a mobile game. Still, those concept art pieces... it makes you wonder what could have been.
If you're interested in how Lili plays, here's a summary from the BitMonster website:
"Lili features an amusing "non-combat" system for dealing with enemies, loads of item collection, humorous character interactions, minigames, and a streamlined RPG campaign. It's an adventure that is appropriate for nearly anyone and yet won't give up its soul to achieve that goal."
Lili is said to be far along in development, and will be available for iOS device in only a few weeks. Look forward to pricing information, if you're interested, and make sure to watch for BitMonster's projects in the future. They look like they've got some great ideas.
