Subject:   iPhone to new computer...can I sync and not lose everything?

I didn't have my own laptop yet, so I had my iPhone synced to my sister's computer. Her computer crashed and lost everything on it, and I just got a PowerBook G4 and want to sync my phone to it. Will I lose all my music and pictures off my phone if I sync to the new computer? Is there a way to sync and not lose everything? Thanks in advance.

There may be a chance that you might lose music/data, so as soon as you connect your iPhone to the new computer, cancel the sync asap. Then go to your iPhone tab in iTunes, click on it, near the bottom of the page there should be a checkbox that says "Manually manage music and videos." Click it, and you should be okay. This does mean that you will have to manually put in your music and videos to your iPhone when you acquire it, but that's just a mild inconvenience.

There are ways to take your music out of the phone before syncing it. What OS are you using?

Thats basically the only thing you'd lose unless to keep the "sync music" unticked, it won't even bother touching it. Same with the apps, but you can actually transfer those purchases into a new iTunes.
