Depends on the quality, you would only need to download the video if you have the converter on your computer already. Or you could cheat and use Youtube Downloader, it does all of that for you. Just to download the video though, it shouldn't be more than 20mb im guessing? It's hard to tell by just a guesstimation.

I am using one of the ones on the first page, it takes a really long time to convert to MP4. That's why I thought it was taking alot of usage.

The best software Ive used is iSkysoft Video Converter
It doesnt just convert from avi to mp4,but it can make the frame sizes and rates, the codec and audio all ready for the ipod or phone you are using. This stuff is preset too, you just have to pick before converting.
You have to pay for it now but they gave it out for free, the $40 version too, around christmas. Ironically most of the websites that notified their visitors of this were "scene" and warez sites

quote Nathan
I use a program called DVDVideoSoft, and from memory it doesn't take as long as 3 hours.
I use that one too, I use it for getting music from youtube aswell, it comes in very handy as there is so many different add-ons you can get on it (for free!) I recommend DVDVideoSoft!
