No english name has been confirmed for him, but it would make sense to keep up with the wood/tree classifications they have had for the Professors in every other game.
As said before Oak, Elm, Birch, (though she wasn't in a game) Ivy. His name will probably be something along the lines of Professor Palm Tree..
I hope this guy is better than Birch though. I couldn't stand him.. He ran away from a level 2 Poochyena..

I personally believe that we should definitely have a female pokemon professor. I DEMAND GENDER EQUALITY!!!!
But i wonder how you would get your first pokemon without a prof? i suppose your parents could give you it. that would work for r/s/e as your dad was a gym leader. He could have given us a slakoth!
