No healing Items? ouch!!
are you talking about Beigis?
if so, all I can say is try Wind Cutter Lv. 3, Walking Water or Homing arrow Lv. 2 from a distance and work on dodging his Green Laser cannon

there is no way to dodge that laser!!!! i stupidly tried to use up all my healling items to try to beat him and then SAVED when i died. that laser comes straight at you and doesnt allow you to move. GOD! ive beat the game so many times before but i had magic barrier by then. i guess my only option is to keep fighting for a month to try and get 36 spirits. oh well...

I leveled up my speed until it was over 110, so it does miss sometimes... I just got next to him and used healing level 2 until he missed, when I hit him with the staff.

You don't need healing items against Beigis.
Just train some, preferably by letting a white rose repeatedly hit you up-close with all three arrows, then fight Beigis with water pillars up close, as close as possible, and he may miss his cutter more often, just enough for you to win. If you don't have 50 water, use cutter 3 if wind's maxed.
I beat Beigis with 5 or so spirit lights, with 300-something HP, no barriers, and a defense of 0, which I kept using a gameshark code that lowers my defense to 0 then prevents it from ever rising.
Beigis's attacks did over 140 damage every hit.

Actually, I managed to beat him long before I got that lame magic barrier. I just kept fighting mansters before I faced him, and if I lost, I'd try again.

lame magic barrier? i think not magic barrier is the best spell in the game!
