Subject:   Crisis core materia and equipment - I need help
-------------------------------------------
Please forgive me for not knowing much - I am a total noob/n00b/nube/whatever. I have got as far as Banora and have played many, many side missions, and as a result of all these side missions I have acquired all sorts of stuff which I seem unable to use. When I click on one of these items to select it, I get a kind of 'dud' sound, and nothing happens. For example, I have an Ifrit thingy that I won in Wutai which works with the digital mind wave, but when I click on it, 'dud'. Nothing happens. Like the game is refusing to let me use it. I think I have four materia slots, which are full, and I think that if I take one out I can put a different one in, but I have lots of materia which I am not even allowed to select. Why? Am I not at high enough level yet? I am Level 13. Will I be able to use this materia and these items later? I seem to be able to defeat most enemies, even at the "Hard' level, just by hitting them a lot with my sword (which I kind of feel would be Zack's style anyway) and rolling away from their attacks.
BTW, I don't really like the digital mind wave, it keeps interfering just when I think I am managing to defeat my enemies all by myself. As I said, I am a total noob - this is the first RPG game I have ever played, and I'm not finding it hard (yet). But I do love the story.

Yes, I am at Banora the first time. I think I am about to battle Genesis. Tseng is no help, bloody overpaid Turk.

The Ifrit materia doesn't do anything as an item. By having it, it allows you to use Ifrit in the DMW.

You have to change materia on the equipment menu, but this is said in the book you get with the game. I'll let you look at it.

Leveling up is strange, you have to wait for the DMW to enter the limit break phase and the numbers to show 777. This is not as random as people believe however as it has a greater chance of happening the more experience you have. At higher levels the chances are REALLY low, though.

By Banora, what do you mean? You go to Banora twice. Once near the begining with Tsung and again at the end.

If you're there the first time, level 13 isn't that bad.

If it's the second time... Well, then you may be cursed and you don't realise it. [Curse stops the DMW from spinning.]
