-------------------------------------------
* HOW TO PLAY *

After the 5 captains are chosen, the draft will begin. We will draft in a down-and-back draft order. That means the draft rounds will go like this: ABCDE, EDCBA, ABCDE, EDCBA, and so on through all 10 rounds.

IMPORTANT: When it becomes your turn to make a selection, you have 24 hours to make your pick. After the 24 hour time limit is up, YOU FORFEIT YOUR TURN and the next person can make his/her pick. You will still be able to make your selection anytime, but losing your turn will likely result in others picking the best available character that you would have otherwise taken. Because of this, YOU SHOULD CHECK THE DRAFT PROGRESS AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE A DAY. That way you ensure that you never miss a turn.

* OTHER RULES *

There are a few restrictions to your picks as well. Your first round pick (the first character you chose) must be your team captain. This means that it has to be one of the following 12 characters: Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Birdo, Peach, Waluigi, Yoshi, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Wario, or Bowser Jr. No exceptions.

Also, you may not have more then one variation of any character in the game. No one is allowed to have both Hammer Bro and Fire Bro on their team together. No one is allowed to have both Yellow Magikoopa and Red Magikoopa... You get the idea. The only exception would be in the final round if you are forced to draft a duplicate character because of lack of availability (if you have no other option).

Also you choose 10 character with one being a bench character

* SUGGESTIONS AND TIPS *

The goal here is to draft the best Mario Superstar Baseball team possible, taking into account hitting, pitching, fielding, and chemistry. However, we are drafting every color variation of every character in the game here. You are not going to be able to pick your perfect team. You are going to have to make concessions and sacrifices. The trick is to know which ones to make. Sometimes the character you don't select is more important then the one you do pick.

There are 2 things to keep in mind when drafting: Filling Needs and Character Availability. The first one is the easiest. You should make sure that as you're drafting, you are addressing all of your team's needs. Make sure you have pitching, hitting, and defense. Team chemistry is easily worked around. You can select one player over another because of chemistry and usually not loose too much throughout the draft. Also, chemistry will effect your choices more toward the end of the draft then at the beginning because most of the players left at the end are on par with each other. Filling your needs will be most important in the early rounds. If you are picking in round 5 and you don't have a decent pitcher yet, you're in trouble. Make sure your team has a starting pitcher, 2-3 power hitters, 1-2 stellar fielders, a good leadoff hitter, and a decent back up pitcher. Keep in mind that some characters can fill more then one roll, adding to their value. For example: Diddy Kong is an awesome fielder as well as a decent leadoff hitter. The remaining spots on your team should be filled by the "best available" players or compatible friend characters when you select them. Of course, you also have to think about how your defense and lineup will flush out as well.

The second thing to keep in mind when making your picks is the availability of the characters. -Or rather, how long they are likely to be available. You have to think a round or two in advance. Let's say in round 2, both Petey Piranha and Toadsworth are likely still available. You may want both on your team, but which one is more likely to be available the next time you make a selection? You should pick Petey Piranha because he will probably be picked sooner then Toadsworth. This greatly effects the value of characters that have multiple color variations. You might really want Toad on your team, but if there 4-5 different versions of him still available, there will probably still be one there for you to pick next round. A lot of the time, you'll have to decide which of 2 or more players means the most to building your team. Because they won't be there next round. Don't be too impulsive. Think about who you're taking and especially who you're NOT taking (who you might be passing up).

Don't think too far ahead, however. You need to address each pick on its own. No character is guaranteed to be there next time. Trying to collect a specific pair or group of characters won't work. You need to make the best possible pick available in every round. If you make a mistake, it can hurt your team as a whole. The cardinal sin here is picking a character sooner then he/she deserves to be taken. Every pick is precious.

I'll try this out, I suppose. Do I just have to post my lineups after the draft?

Also, how are you performing the games?

I would guess we would have to play with our drafted teams on our own games against the Computer. The scoring could go like this.

RBI= 1 pt each

Stolen Base= 2 pts each

Big Play= 2 pts each

Single= 1 pt each

Double= 1 pt each

Triple= 2 pts each

Single Home Run= 3 pts each

Double Home Run= 4 pts each

Triple Home Run= 5 pts each

Grand Slam= 6 pts each

You would add on the points, and whoever had the team with the most combined points after the set number of games was completed would win. It would also rely on skill, but oh well... Also, if everyone agrees, I would like to take over this draft if Ninja doesn't post in a little while longer.
