Facebook's photo-sharing site Instagram has updated its privacy policy giving it the right to sell users' photos to advertisers without notification.

Unless users delete their Instagram accounts by a deadline of 16 January, they cannot opt out.

The changes also mean Instagram can share information about its users with Facebook, its parent company, as well as other affiliates and advertisers.

The move riled social media users, with one likening it to a "suicide note".

Any of you people use Instagram? If so how do you feel about this? Personally the amount of people that will actually notice this will cause worldwide account deletions. Pure and blatent copyright infringement, since they intended to do it low profile without notifying people.

I personally hate Instagram and see no point for it whatsoever. This affects me in no way. But I may warn some people who have it

The types of companies that would want to use these photo's to advertise with in the first place piss me off something solid. I don't use instagram, but if there is a way to stop them making the change while still allowing other people to use it then I'd happily be a part of it.

I'm an Instagram user and this has really annoyed me. I highly doubt anybody would want to use my photos but I still feel the need to take some degree of protection and watermark them. Which means taking them all down, and re-uploading them with watermarks on which is going to be time consuming and annoying.

I'm not going to delete my account, Instagram was one of the main things I was looking forward to when I got my iPhone but I can see a lot of deletions after this. How they can think this is a good idea is beyond me. Copyright infringement at its highest, and they only put a measly notification on the app itself about the changes, not even explaining them in full. I will be watermarking all of my images before January.

It's where people post pictures of:

1. Their food
2. Their "relaxed legs"
3. Their food.

It seems to me that Facebook is seeing to slowly erode its users' privacy and rights. They've been taking baby steps, slowly stripping away things in small enough gos that people won't really stand up and take notice, but this? This is just stupid.

Glad I don't have an account either. And if I had one, I would probably delete it by now because I see little interest in Instagram. What does it do again that Facebook can't do? (just asking)

Lolol, this. I see 90% of this, and this past month, 9% Christmas trees and 1% of people taking pictures of themselves or their animals.
