Star Wars job goes to Toy Story 3 writer

quote
Hollywood scribe Michael Arndt will write the next instalment in the Star Wars series, Lucasfilm has confirmed.

Arndt won an Oscar for best original screenplay for the 2006 comedy Little Miss Sunshine. His screenplay for Toy Story 3 was nominated for best adapted screenplay in 2010.

He has also co-written the second film in the Hunger Games trilogy.

According to the Hollywod Reporter, the latest Star Wars story will focus on a new generation of heroes.

However, there could be appearances by actors Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in older incarnations of their characters - Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia - from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Harrison Ford, who played space smuggler Han Solo, is also reported to be interested in reprising his role.

Ford's Hollywood star rose with his appearances in the three Star Wars film, which he followed up with his role as archaeologist adventurer Indiana Jones and films including with The Fugitive and his Oscar-nominated turn in Witness.

Hamill is an in-demand voice actor and Fisher, who struggled with drug addictions throughout the 1970s, is a successful novelist and screenwriter.

In October, it was announced that Disney had bought George Lucas's Lucasfilms company for a reported $4.05 billion (£2.5bn) and was committed to producing three new films.

George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy will produce the films but have yet to hire a director for the project.

Pixar alumnus Brad Bird has been touted in the movie press as has British director of Kick-Ass, Matthew Vaughn.

Star Wars: Episode 7, the next film in the franchise is due to be released in 2015.
SAUCE

Seems Disney has enforced it's hold over the franchise, with Toy Story writer being involved. Now Toy Story was a good film from my childhood, don't get me wrong but I didn't really envisage this happening and with Disney now involved, aren't quite sure if they'll pull a real cringe-fest of a film out of their arse or something that lives up to the original trilogy. Not quite sure if Zurg will feature as a new emporor either.

So what are you thoughts on this Loungin'?

Shitsney's going to ruin the experience imo.

Interestingly, this is a scene from the new Star Wars film.

I disagree. Disney doesn't put out bad movies and Lucas didn't really care about Star Wars. I'm optimistic about it tbh.

Note: I've never liked Star Wars.

Well, he's the writer, but they also need a director, I probably missed who that will be, but I'm sure the writer respects the Star Wars universe, And I think he was a fan of it?
Most guys that wanted to work in the movie Industry were inspired by Star Wars, I'm sure working on a real Star Wars project is a privilege, and kinda like a dream for them to come true, I'm sure they don;t want to *bleep* it up, and assuming just because Disney bought Lucasfilms, and a writer that worked on some Disney movies, mostly as a Screenwriter, wont mean anything, that's just assuming by thinking about moments in Toy Story 3, and then adding that in a Star Wars movie, but that's a totall different enviroment and movie, so the writer adapts to the style and universe of the sort of movie that's bee worked on, Disney bought Lucasfilm, so Star Wars will still be produced from Lucasfilm company, kinda like TouchStone Film Company, also from Disney, that produces movies that is a bit too mature to be called a Disney movie.
So it most likely wont change anything.

What can happen is perhaps a Hidden Mickey, because even robots looking like ET made an appearance in Episode 2 I think, little cameos that don't interupt the story, since the Star Wars universe always looks very crouded, so weird figures that resemble somehting from previouse Lucasfilm movies made an appearance.
But a team of people are all working on it, and they rather keep it as it is, Especially Star Wars, that's a very delicate project, with a fanbase, that you don't want to screw up on.

I'm mostly interested to see the main cast do a revival, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford And such return, and hopefully this team of people do a great job at it to make this movie worth it.

Mark Hamill only has a face for radio these days. He was looking rather ugly in The Return of The Jedi, as a matter of fact.

Wait, people are mad that the dude who wrote one of the best movies of the past decade is writing this?

Btw they've already cast Luke Skywalker's son, can't believe there hasn't been a thread

That would be awesome if Joss Whedon got to direct the new Star Wars film. He did a great job with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (granted, that was a TV Series but the action scenes from that series kicked ass--lots of good fights in that series).

I've never really been interested in Star Wars. I DID see the clone wars animated series on TV, and I liked that, so maybe I'll go see this.

Why are people automatically assuming that it'll be bad? Have some faith, people! This is Disnep we're talking about!

Hehehe, yup! I used to say Disnep when I was a kid. The writing in the logo really made the Y look like a P.

LOL, thats because he was in a car accident just at the end of filming A New Hope. I think he got away with it in Empire Striked Back due to youth but in Return Of the Jedi the scarring was becoming more apparent.

In any case i think they should have stopped after Return Of the Jedi. Maybe even Emprie Strikes Back. I was not a fan of the new movies.

The new movies pretty much sucked in my opinion. Way to many things occurred in those films that would never of happened.

Agreed. But its even simpler than that for me. They were just poorly written, poorly acted, the pacing was poor, the CGI was overused and underwhelming...

I dont wanna go on all day but i just thought they were poor movies at a very basic fundemental level and thats before we get to the canon, lore or story.

I shall cut my crititsism short because i have recently been accused of being too negative around here. So here, free candy:
