In my eyes, there are two shows named The Simpsons. One is a timeless classic that had a bit of a rough start (first two seasons kinda sucked, although the second gained some momentum after a while), but they developed the comedy and hilarity ensued for 11 seasons. It's the most quotable show on the face of the planet.
The other is a mediocre show with maybe a couple of funny moments every now and again.

Family guy is starting to become mediocre as well. When I found Stewie started going soft it wasent as edgy like the family guy in the beginning.
