If your like me, and you have a good computer with a great processor, your not using all of your cpu cycles all of the time. Why not put them to good use?
Folding @ HomequoteWhat is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.
You can help by simply running a piece of software. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals.
I leave my computer on most of the time, and I've been wanting to try out Folding At Home. I just downloaded it, and started our own Neoseeker team. The program runs in the background, just using spare CPU cycles. My processor has been hovering around 60 to 100% load while I run it, and its risen 9 degree's C. You can easily change how much percent of your processor it uses (from 0 to 100%).
Current projects:* Alzheimer's Disease
* Cancer
* Huntington's Disease
* Osteogenesis Imperfecta
* Parkinson's Disease
* Ribosome & antibiotics

The success of the neoseeker team would not be possible with out the following members (in no order). You can thank them, give them a slap on the rear, or what ever you want.

And of course, those of you running the program right now.If I left you out (and you should be in the list), then sorry, just let me know and I'll put you up there. I'm positive I left someone out though.Since its going to be very hard to keep up with who is still running the program, and whose not, I'll just change the list to whats on the F@H website. When you set up the program, please use your full user name, and (pc) or (PS3), or (*processor type*) if you want to.
Thank You for helping the cause!

I did that a while ago, under Anandtechs team. but I stopped because... I' not sure why. But anyway, If you have a new video card, some of them can also be used by Folding @ Home. And Video cards have immensely more floating point calculating power than processors, so they work a lot better. I think it's only very recent cards that can do it though.

I think I have everything set up right. Under my personal stats, it shows the wrong team for some strange reason, and dosnt show the neoseeker team has done anything. of course its only a few hours old, but I think it should show the team members..

That's what I was noticing, it wasn't showing any of the member's names. Maybe it will update sometime, but I have the program running under the 53701 team.
BTW, what cards are they that can be used to do calculations. I'd like to let my 6800GS run and see how it does.

I think the only vid cards that can be used are ATi cards, but I'm not 100% sure.

Only X1900s so far have been coded for the gpu folding.

I'm in. It doesn't show our members or anything, but I'm letting it calculate on mine.

I'm going to try and figure out why its not updating our team. I have no clue why its doing that. hopefully I can get it fixed.
I've been reading around the F@H forums, and it seems that team members (with rank) wont appear until You've completed one 'job'. Mine says it wont be done until February 10th

I guess we just wait a few days and see if it slowly starts adding us..

yeah, it won't show anything until someone sends the info back to F@H. As soon as people start completing things, it should show up.

F@H relies mostly on CPU speed, and processing power, correct?
Out of curiosity, what processor/speed is everyone running? I'm using an AMD X2 at 2.4GHZ.
I'm planning on getting an old P4 system I got up and running as a spare computer, small network server, and running F@H.
