what if you want to use a high end air cooler instead?

water cooling is overrated, tbh.

hey, dont badmouth the P4! they were so damn easy to overclock with software, which was a lifesaver for me. had my P4 for nearly a decade.
I still have one... it's in pieces though... got 3.6ghz on air with that lil thing... and it's a socket 478

Probably thought it was some chips or something.

Mind you he shouldn't have left it lying around.

It was already dead when she ate it. The socket literally melted the chip.

Atleast you didn't lose a good CPU then if it was already dead.

I wish Microsoft had kept animated wallpapers in Windows 7. Wouldn't have minded some of those Android ones on a desktop (kind of the ones that are weather and time relevent). Surely they could've improved Dreamscene instead of scrapping it.

that was back when there was that foxconn issue with insufficient contact between the pins and the pads, right?

Yes, it was usually on Gigabyte boards as well.

That's why I went with asus... they have never failed me before... except when I push insane amounts of volts through it... which surprisingly only melted the 4 pin connector...

Got my new mSATA SSD intalled... and to my surprise, the mSATA port in my laptop is Sata III

What is a mSATA port? Micro-SATA? Never heard of it, just eSATA.

Pretty good read on that SSD. Write wasn't much of an improvement over the HDD though .

Its mini-SATA

here's a pic of it on top of a 2.5" HDD

The second bench score was also an mSATA SSD... although it was sata 2

here's what my laptop's hdd, 5400RPM 750GB

in comparison to my desktops 1TB 7200RPM HDD

what's important for load times are the random read/write speed... sequential speed don't mean that much.

Whoa whoa, a 128gb SSD packed into the size of a wireless card on a laptop.

I've heard of storage devices that use the PCI express Mini port, like a wireless card will use, but I never heard of a micro-sata port for this such of a thing.

You're surprised over 128Gb... there are 256GB mSATA cards available as well... but I wasn't going to spend 270 bucks on one of those.

They've been out for a while, a lot of lenovo laptops support mSATA now... However mSATA cards won't work on a PCI express mini port as it doesn't have the sata controller.

Here's a test using compressed data

Showoff

SATA III has a 6gbps bandwidth? Can't it atleast hit that.

Might be tempted to get another one when prices come down and capacities go up

EDIT:

Luis_GT Jealous?

Now if only I could grab more RAM and use that to mount specific games. Not sure what but something does seem to be holding back my RAM. I've seen some people get far higher scores than what I've had on that.

EDIT:

Well that's interesting. I try another ramdisk program I get pretty much an all round improvement.
