First, you need to examine the books. you can move the book around, so move it till you can see the pages (like you're gunna open the book). The book will then open. and you'll get your statue pieces
Also- you get the evil book in the room with the huge chess pieces, after you unlock the doors with the suits of armor blocking them

I remember those well...i searched and searched for about six months for those pieces. It drove me up a wall. It was a real bitch, At the time I had both books. I even examined them! but, they [i][/i]are in the book. you must rotate it sideways for it to open. the piece of the statue is inside. I felt so dumb that night
