You know on The Maw when you are on the warthogs, well Cortana says something like, "At full speed, will should be able to hear it!" and I can't seemt o drop without flippin and losing a good 5-10 secinds.
HELP!

After the jump, hold the analog stick in whatever direction you need to keep the nose of the warthog aimed upwards. However, makes sure you don't turn the warthog or you could find yourself right where you are now.

Actually this isnt nearly as hard as you think it is. The real key here is NOT that you have to be going full speed, although you should be going fast. The real trick is you HAVE GOT to hit that jump STRAIGHT or you risk flipping over or even missing the other side entirely. I still say that whole part of the game ending mission would be fine if not for those CRAPPY ASS, CHEESY, Garbage controls for the Wharthog. LOL who ever heard of a vehicle that is steered by the camera?? <DUMB!!!>

LOL no I meant the worst. It has nothing to do with getting good at it. I have bo doubt that practice makes you better and I am sure you can get AWESOME at driving the Warthog. But vehicles, especially those with wheels, have:
-Steering wheels
-accerleration
-braking
-reverse
lmao all four should ideally have their OWN buttons in a videogame. While I am sure that wharhog driving is loads of fun if you can be bothered to care to want to drive a vehicle that is <BARF> controlled by the camera (lol I didn't know cars had camera in them instead of steering wheels I will look in my car for one), I much prefer a button for acceleration, another botton for breaking and one of the analog sticks for steering.
The vehicle could still handle exactly the same way only without having to have two "steering wheels" lol I mean analog sticks.
I know I could get awesome at driving a Warthog, but I just hate the controls so much I wouldn't waste my time. My only goal in that game was to get good enough on them to beat the missions that required you using the vehicles. Obviously I can't totally suck at it since I beat The Maw on Legendary many times. But no matter how many times I drive the Warthog, I have never liked the controls, and I never will.
If I remember right, Bungi agrees with people like me on this and is changing the controls of the vehicles to make them more "steering" friendly and realistic to the way vehicles actually steer. But I forget where I read that.

Well I agree that the controls are stupid and awkward but some how it gives me individually a fun experience!! But stick me on mm3 with those controls I and I'll suck!!

Let me rephrase about the controls because I just gave it some thought.
When you aren't under a lot of time pressure the controls are fine and in some ways can be a lot of fun. Because of the wacky way that the vehicles handle I mean. And even though I complain about the controls I really am pretty decent at controlling the Warthog. I am VERY sure that I am nowhere near as good as you and a lot of other people in here but I don't fall off cliffs and stuff.
I think that if the extent of the difficulty of the driving part of the game was in missions like "Halo" where you are looking for survivors and in the other boards where you use vehicles, I wouldn't complain at all. Because the drivin/gliding/flying parts of those levels are so straight up that even with the wacky controls it is A LOT OF FUN to pilot the vehicles.
But honestly, in The Maw on Legendary when you are under the gun and you have to negotiate the vehicle through that deadly obstacle course under time pressure, being fired at by everyone and everything, the controls just sort of get in their own way, more often than not.
LOL don't get me wrong I LOVE this game! It is UP THERE with GTA in my book and for me (a total GTA fanboy) that is REALLY saying something. And I know I rant about the vehicle controls a lot. So forgive my complaining lmao or just ignore it.
But ask yourself this: How many times, even being good at controlling the Warthog as I am sure you are, have you gotten stuck in a corner on The Maw and just fumbled your way through controlling the 'Hog, desperately trying to get out of the corner and get the vehicle to get back on track straight ahead?
I have replayed The Maw on Legendary MANY times just to get better at the controls and I am decent and can pass the level. But ask yourself how much more fair the level would be if you had control schemes that conformed to typical driving games.
OH and by the way, I am NOT complaining about the vehicles or even the handling. I think that the way the vehicles handle are INSANELY cool, especially the Warthog. I would just like to see typical driving controls that would make the experience of driving more pleasant and fun. I know I am probably a minority on this point, amd lol probably playing GTA a little too much and am spoiled by the driving in those games, but I would LOVE to see what it would be like to have say a Warthog with an accelerator, brake, reverse and steering, with a separate button for each one and the steering beiung the Left Analog stick.
Hey even if they gave you the choice in the settings like they do to invert the camera. Because I know you die hard HALO fans, who would KICK the ever loving shit out of me in this game online, would LOVE to see the old Halo vehicle control schemes because you totally ROCK using them. And I don't want to have your gameplay experience changed or diminished because I want more traditional driving controls.
For me though, I would just enjoy the game that much more if I could choose from "Classic Halo Driving" and "Standard Vehicle controls" and not have the handling of the vehicles change at all. This is reasonable too, just like in racing games you can choose between Manual and Automatic Transmissions.

The controls were a little awkward when I first played it but now it rulez! (With a "z" - westside!
).Imagine how crap it would be if it was like the other driving things - you wouldn't be able to see what's around you so freely and accurately! But anyway...
...about The Maw, I did it today on Easy (to save time and hassle) and what I did was; went to the left of the 'cliff' and turned right and went down sideways and when i hit, it leveled out and I just made it up to the second ledge.
Since I was on Easy and I had loads of time left - I explored below the stealth fighter thing (at the end) and found loads of rooms and ledges! It was dazzling!
Check it out, seriously, it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

What I learned from CAL practices on Halo PC (which applies here as well) when jumping Warthogs or Ghosts if you spin it around like to do a 360 you'll land flat on its wheels, I do it all the time now so I don't flip over on my jumps.

I don't think the hog's controls are weird. that is handy when you are driving and when you sense a covie, you can see and drive over to him.

I love the controls for the warthog. I could drive that thing the first time i hopped in one. The Maw is easy to drive through. I dont understand how anyone would have a hard time with the controls on the warthog, its just like walking and lookin around, u push up to go forward and back to backward and right to turn right and so on.....Wasnt this thread about the jump in the Maw, not the controls of the warthog. The jump is easy also. I have never flipped....But thats just me i gues.....O and by the way, there isnt a camera behind real cars because this is a f***ing video game!!!!!
