Well... say you wanted to quote a post, but without replying to the thread. If the thread is closed, then you can't quote it without copying and pasting.

I think you should be able to quote a post without replying to the thread. Say I found something really funny, and wanted to put it in the Quotes Thread. The thread where the post came from is close. I'd have to copy and paste it. If I copied and pasted it, it wouldn't have any mark up in it unless you added it, and you'd have to manually type in the post number so that the link above the quote shows up.

It could just be a simple button that says "Copy Message" or something, so that it gets added to your Copy and Paste clipboard, and when you paste it somewhere else it has all the mark up and link to the post.

I know this is very useful because I've done this a lot with NAMFox...but for all those people that don't use Firefox as a browser it'd be nice to do something...

Even if it is just opening up quick edit to every post. But the ideal would be the "Copy Message" function mentioned above.

I think this would be pretty useful, just a copy quote to clipboard button on posts as said really.

Hmmm, It does seem like a good suggestion. However if you have a tabbed browser you can always right click quote and open in a new tab to get at it... whilst not ideal it's something for the time being >.>.

That doesn't work if the thread is closed, though.

Hmmm, that is true ^^;;. Did not think about that one but ah well =/. It's not often you need to quote locked threads anyways ;;. >.>... but I support this one anyways =P.

Seeing this suggestion I also think the "copy message" would be a total replacement for the quote function actually.

You can use quick quote to make a fast reply or just use copy message for either another thread where the original thread is closed, or use it to paste it in the reply to the current thread.

You can use the "QUICK EDIT" link on all posts to get the actual post contents, and then you can add the quote tags to it yourself. A bit of effort, but does what you want for the time being.

However, having wanted to quote a post before (when the quick edit feature didn't exist) and not being able to do so since the thread was closed, I think something like this would be extremely handy.

I would say a "Quick Quote" function. It could be dual purpose.

It could allow you to get a quick reply area with the post quoted in it, so you could not only copy from that but also have the ability to easily quote in quick reply.

And I think it should still be functional in closed threads, but not allow you to post. That way you can still get quotes.

Just listing a dual purpose solution.

At Krunal: You cant Quick Edit other peoples posts...

Just for reference, that is exactly how we've done it with NAMFox. I think it would probably be the best possible implementation of this suggestion.

I suggest. It happens multiple times when I want to quote something, but the thread is closed and it doesn't work.

Yeah, there have definitely been points in time when such a feature would have been useful to me. I support.

I support this too.

Many times in a busy forum such as the wrestling forum, a thread might run its page limit and a new thread is started.

I would want to quote a message in the closed thread to use in the new thread, but would be unable to do so.

I fully support this.

I use NAMfox and make use of this feature quite often. It would be nice if people who didn't have FireFox could also enjoy the convenience of this. It would still be handy even if it was pulled off a bit differently for IE/Opera/Whatever users as long as the basic idea is the same.
