Subject: Cigarettes : Why Were They Made?
-------------------------------------------
I remember a D.A.R.E. teacher came to my elementary school back in 2001 and told us about what to do and what not to do. One of the last times she ever visited there, I asked if she knew why cigarettes were even made in the first place? Was there a reason for it? To this day, I still haven't gotten a solid answer to the question I asked four or so years ago. Do you guys have any idea why this "killer" came about, or what it was originally used for?

That's like who invented beer and drugs and spyware.
Tobacco was a popular trade by the Native Americans and the Europeans. That's all I know.

tobacco has been around for ages, but someone decided to screw it up and put all this garbadge in it, wrap it in paper and sell it to people.

People buy it. The companies get money. People like to smoke. Any drawbacks? Not really. Unless people dying is a concern. That's their choice, you don't live forever anyways.
When I smoke, if it kills me, then so be it.

Tobacco was cropped by farmers and the governors bought it from them & sold them by ocean. Then, tobacco was made to smoke.1500th post!

But that's the thing...You don't love to smoke. Your brain is telling you that you need to smoke.
Your brain produces things called neurotransmitters that flow through your neural networks telling you what to do. When you do drugs or smoke, your brain begins to slow down the process of these neurotransmitters. Drugs then begin to produce artificial neurotransmitters(I guess that is what you can call them) called antagonist to replace the ones your brain is slowly making. So when you stop smoking, you brain is missing those neurotransmitters and since they are slowly producing, the brain tells you that you need to smoke to get those antagonist. Hence the addiction
Gawd, I love taking AP Psychology! I am learning sooo much about the brain.

it is a plant called tobacco and the only reason they are still around is because the goverments make loads and loads of money out of it.

Doesn't it seem surreal to everyone else that smoking is such a big habit? Apart from the addiction, what's the point?
And it's accepted. People are allowed to have cigarette breaks, although it makes them less productive. I know one woman who gave up smoking when she was pregnant, didn't allow her little boy sugar until he was three, and then got her daughter smoking at thirteen. Why?

I know they were made from tobacco, a plant that was very popular centuries ago. It still is, today. But, I am really curious about the fact that why, or how, rather, it was made into cigarettes, or such lines like that?

the Native Americans found a plant that when consumed was addicting, they liked it, somehow they may have accidentally burned it and found that was more effective. When Spain went over to the Americas they saw the natives smoking. They tried it and enjoyed it. They brought it back to spain and the Queen tried it, (a servant saw her smoking, thought she was on fire and poured a bucket of water on her) this led a trend through the nobles and upper classpeople. Then it eventually spread on because of it's addicting qualities. they found, that because it was addicting people would keep buying it and therefore it made lots of money. this was a large part of their profits. this is how smoking came to be as it is today.

I know that Native Americans discovered it by accident. This actually reminds me of something. when I was four years old, My parents smoked (Neither of them do now). I always saw them and wanted to try it. One day, when they werent looking, I took a lit cigarette outta the ashtray and tried to smoke it... I was coughing the rest of the week! I still remember the disgusting taste.
