quote rpgfan.comSourceOnly one day after announcing Dragon Quest IX for Nintendo's DS, Square Enix also showed some love to Sony Computer Entertainment's handheld platform, PlayStation Portable. The company today announced plans to bring its classic strategy RPG Final Fantasy Tactics to the system. Titled Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou (The Lion Wars), the portable version will offer several exclusive features, such as new jobs and new movie sequences. Square Enix is utilizing cel-shading to create these new movies sequences.
Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou has yet to receive an official release date in Japan.
Together with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for DS, the Final Fantasy Tactics remake is part of what Square Enix refers to as the "Ivalice Alliance". In addition to the two aforementioned titles, a third game titled Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Fuuketsu no Grimoire is also in development, but Square Enix has yet to provide any details regarding this title.

quoteThe title for Final Fantasy Tactics A2 has been an uknown matter for some time since it was revealed by Square Enix. In Japanese - Fûketsu No Black book which translates as The Black Book Sealed. It has now been edited for western release as Black book of the Rift, or rather Grimoire OF The Rift depending on what translation source to go on. Both of which share the same meaning. So this is an early statement on the title, due to the fact this is the first english article on this of my knoledge its subject to change at any stage. However i trust my sources and translation.
quoteToday Square Enix have released the official web page for their future PSP title, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War. A characters page, and prologue is available along with character art, though ofcourse at this stage in Japanese!

New details on FFXIII and Versus.
by IGN Staff
US, January 10, 2007 - Following up on the latest series of trailers that were first aired at the Jump Festa event in Tokyo late last year, Famitsu has scored interviews with the key personnel behind the Fabula Nova Crystallis series to shed some light into how things are going with the next generation of Final Fantasy.
The magazine first confirms some of what we gathered from the main Final Fantasy XIII trailer, an updated version of the E3 trailer with a few new scenes and a prologue section. In the main FFXIII game, the world is split into two parts: Cocoon and Pulse. Cocoon is a space colony that houses a few million people. Pulse is everything outside of it.
For the people of Cocoon, Pulse is a frightening place. Those who come into contact with it are believed to be elements of a plot to invade Cocoon and are banished from the protections of the Cocoon realm by the "holy" government and its army. The original E3 trailer depicted a group of people who seemed to be confined on a train. These people had come into contact with Pulse and were being quarantined.
Cocoon is protected by crystals. This may not necessarily be the case for the rest of the games in the Fabula Nova Crystalis series, but the crystals in FFXIII are more than just shiny stones with magic abilities. They have the ability to create real life objects. They make life easy for people in Cocoon by creating machines and living creatures.
The relationship between Cocoon and Pulse can be thought of as this, according to director Motome Toriyama. First, there was Pulse, a dangerous world where people reside under the fear of monster attack. Cocoon was made when the crystals considered what would be an appropriate living space for people forced to reside in the world of Pulse.
As mentioned in our writeup on the Jump trailer, the female character who is assumed to be FFXIII's main character is known as Lightning, although that's not her real name. A battle expert with mastery of gun, sword, hand-to-hand, and magic based combat, Lightning knows little about herself. In fact, she's not even sure of her real name, and Toriyama says that we should look forward to finding out the reason for this as part of the storyline. Lighting was once a high ranking official in an organization of some form. Now, according to the prologue that kicks off the trailer, she's been selected as an enemy to all of man kind and will bring destruction to the world.
The trailer also served as the debut of a second character, a blonde-haired guy who speeds in on a motorcycle as Lightning finds herself surrounded by government troops. While the magazine doesn't provide any details on this character, it does provide some surprises about his motorcycle. Famitsu reveals that the bike is a transformed version of Shiva, the water-based summon spell that makes a brief appearance in the Jump trailer. In FFXIII, Shiva takes the form of a sister pair, and both sisters are made up of bike parts, complete with a wheel behind the head. Toriyama wouldn't spill the details, but hinted that you might be able to ride the transformed Shiva in battle, in addition to using it as a means of transportation when outside of battle.
Once again, most of the details in this latest update have been saved for the main FFXIII title, with only tiny bits coming our way on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Mostly, Famitsu describes what went on in the Jump trailer, itself an extended version of the E3 trailer, but there are a few details that we missed during our initial viewing.
At the beginning of the trailer, as the main character speeds down a highway in the back seat of a car, he's listening to a news broadcast on the radio. This broadcast describes how two countries have come to a treaty about peaceful use of crystals.
Crystals have a different role in the Versus world, director Tetsuya Nomura explained to Famitsu. In Versus, crystals exist only in the main character's country. A long cold war revolving around these crystals, has, as suggested by the news broadcast, at last begun to clear.
One point of interest in the trailer regards the main character's eyes and features, which seem to change based on his moves. During battle, his eyes are red, and when he darts from place to place, his hair flashes white. Director Tetsuya Nomura revealed to the magazine that, while nothing has been confirmed, it's possible that his eyes will change to other colors as well, including green.
Nomura offered a few hints on the kind of battle system we can expect from Versus. The trailer shows the main character selecting from a number of different weapons to defeat the hundreds of enemy soldiers that stand before him. The various weapons in the game will have different methods of attack, and some will even be usable as shields. Weapons will have some sort of customization element. Of course, the main character won't have his full arsenal available to him at the outset of the game.
While everything we've seen of Versus so far has been CG concept footage, Nomura revealed that we will at long last get to see the game running on actual PS3 hardware some time this year.
But before that, let's hope Square Enix is good enough to make the Jump trailers available for download so that everyone can have a look at the latest from FFXIII.
quoteWhile this whole article is freakin' awesome and chock full of interesting news, I always get wary when I see such a blatant mistake... like didn't anyone who read this article before it's release PLAY a FF game with Shiva in it? Ice, guys... not water..... Silly famitusu/IGN.Famitsu reveals that the bike is a transformed version of Shiva, the water-based summon spell that makes a brief appearance in the Jump trailer.

quote crisis-core.netA scan of next week's Crisis Core article in Weekly Jump has been uploaded. This is the article which was previously reported on.
The new battle system is known as Digital Mind Wave, or "DMW", and revolves around the reels in the upper left corner, which influence Zack's stats. Upon lining up three reels of the same character and value, a "Power Surge!!" will be triggered, and a technique that has some connection to the character will become available.
The article features CGI renders of both Zack and Angeal, as well as a handful of screenshots, including the ones featuring the Turks, Reno and Rude, as well as Razard, the head executive of SOLDIER.
Razard: "We've recieved a report from his parents, Genesis hasn't been in contact with them."
Reno: "Midgar's crawlin' with monsters..."
Rude: "The SOLDIERs are having a hard fight, too."

And here are some new Game Informer scans ...quote- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -Revealing its first articles concerning the Fabula Nova Crystalis Compilation, Game Informer elucidates upon some of the previously mentioned details about the three games. Although most of the details were already established from other media sources, GI does confirm two important aspects to the mysterious Final Fantasy (supposed) Trio: Lightning is in fact the main protagonist - the "instrumental force of change" - in Final Fantasy 13, and Square Enix has indeed filed a trademark for a "Final Fantasy Haeresis 13". Despite suggesting the possibly tipping exclusiveness of the series, GI is definitely excited about the games (and hopefully their release dates) - as we can all putatively agree.
A new GamePro scan ...quote- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -Like many other magazines in the past week, GamePro has a small extract on each of the upcoming titles for PS3.
The scan gives us a little more background on Lightning.
"In the story an exile from the floating kingdom of Cocoon, who has been banished to the lower world, finds herself caught up in a plot to take the sky domain down."
The magazine has also predicted that both XIII and Versus will be released in 2008 like many others have said.
Dunno if these have already been posted. New FFXIII PSM Scans ...quote- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -We have some new PSM scans thanks to Lonely_Leonhart from FF-XIII.net. The scans don't contain any new information about the games but instead talk about the graphical leap the series has taken to almost become "visually superior to a Hollywood movie". Interestingly a caption for one of the screenshots says that Versus hasn't been confirmed to be using the White Engine although it has.
Some Official Playstation Magazine UK Scans ...quoteOfficial Playstation Magazine has reported on the real power of our PS3's featuring a high resolution picture of Shiva. The article talks about how the Cell Processor and RSX graphics chips help make the PS3 the lead out of the next generation consoles in graphics and uses the HD Shiva image as an example. Nothing really said about XIII except the small caption saying that Square will prove the PS3's "visual prowess" with the game.
