Of course they exist, but they are much less common than one subwoofer, for the reasons stated in the article.

So these are a PC gaming only headset and cannot be used with a 360?

ehhh the article says ANY surround speaker setup has one subwoofer, not just some or most. plus the reasoning is dumbed down to the point of inaccuracy.

quote article
For locating sounds, it is best to set the bass to a low setting. If not, it has a tendency to mask the direction of sounds, since human hearing is typicall not well adapted to work with such frequencies. This is the main reason why any surround speaker system has only one sub-woofer, which can be placed anywhere in the room.

most setups have only one subwoofer because its economical and does the job 'good enough'.

the reason people use two subwoofers is because distortion in a subwoofer produces directional sound and having two across from each other tends to smooth this out.

this leads to the next point: subwoofer placement DOES MATTER. placement affects the quality of the bass: too close to a wall, even worse a corner, makes it boomy, which masks the other audio frequencies you hear, which is why the author prefers the lower bass setting in these headpphone; because boomy bass sucks and kills treble, and it sounds like these headphones dont have the tighest bass (same with sennheisers).

tight bass for life!

Thanks for pointing that out. Corrected.

Great review. As much as these sound like great headsets, to be honest, for 300 dollars, they should also be better for listening to music, but then again, maybe I am being a tad picky.

Blame Microsoft! They were the ones who decided to make their hardware so proprietary when everyone else (PC, PS3, even the Wii, I believe) went for the more...ya know, rational option of the industry standard USB. It annoys me to no end that I cannot use my USB headsets on my 360, and I cannot use my 360 headset on...well, anything but the 360.

XBox 360 do use USB controllers that are fully compatible with PCs, and supported by many games though.

Controllers you are right on, but the headsets and other peripherals is what I was referring to. I will give MS credit for USB controllers because it allows you to use the wired controllers (and wireless with an adapter) on your PC.

maybe just get a good pair of grado headphones and use xfi's cmss3D for virtual 3D audio placement. grados have amazing resolution, are great for music, and since theyre so revealing of audio make 3D audio positioning pretty discernible.

$300 is a lot of bones for a one-trick pony.
