Okay. this is a thread to talk about the relationship from ff8, Squall and Rinoa. I have loads views on this but i was hoping for some other opinions. Did people like it? Did they find it believable? And what points trhought the game do you think they started falling in love?
I like squinoa, i think it was so believable and so sweet. And i think you could see it at lots of little points in the games, like starting with 'just stay close to me' in deling all the way to the ragnorock. So what does everyone else think?

from what i remember, the kids used to bicker a lot, especially squall and seifer. and ellone was the big "sis" to em all so when she left, thats sort of when squalls childhood ended, he shut himself in a shell and didnt let himself rely on anyone again. (that was a well sad bit, with him standing in the rain what a coincidence that at that same moment i had a piece of dust in my eye ) so i think if she'd stayed, maybe he would of developed a bit more of a "healthy" attitude to relationships. that doesnt mean he'd be best buds with seifer just maybe he would of been able to express himself a bit better.

I think you have a good point GG. it would have been interesting to see the similarities and differences between Ellones personality and squalls. i think although kind and quite spirited, given everything ellone had gone through, she might have been quite troubled, like squall appears at some points.

In the orphanage, she isn't really around the other kids, as said before. I think the fact that she was being chased around so much and never really got to live her childhood out, so she felt distant towards the kids.
We saw that she was an outgoing young girl in the flashbacks. Maybe that changed some when she was moving from place to place.
Ellone did seem sweet, but also very quiet and soft spoken. So maybe she was a loner to an extent. I personally just feel that if she hadn't left, Squall wouldn't have been so closed.

I really don't understand anything you are saying Duncan...
I'm not convinced Squall would open up even if Ellone came back into his life at this point in the game and Rinoa wasn't in his life. I definitely think Rinoa is the Key to Squall's happiness/openness.
And you make a good point GG, one I was thinking about earlier. It would be interesting to see how open Ellone is. All we see of her is that she has been running from captors. She was on the White SeeD Ship for a while, and she sounds like a sweet person, but I wonder how that affected her development. She is very loyal to Laguna, knowing everything he did for her, but the way I see it, she seems like a loner from what we see: she is never around another person in the game.

A agree with Balambgirl. It's obvious that "little Squall" was alot quieter and less social than the other kids at the orphanage. Even if Ellone had stayed, Squall still might never have felt the need to socialize with the other kids. Especially with kids like Seifer around - Seifer's constant insults towards "little Squall" wouldn't have given Squall the best impression of people.
I think Squall's personality would have depended on Ellone. If she had stayed, would she have tried to get Squall to interact with the other kids? Or would she have accepted him the way he is? She herself didn't seem to be too close to the other kids, since her departure didn't seem to really effect the others. So maybe Ellone herself was also a bit of a loner who preffered to be on her own too (or, rather, with Squall).
My view is somewere in the middle. I think Squall was pre disposed to Loner behaviour, it was in his nature, and against that nature he became close to ellone, ellone leaving re-awakened and increased in him a personality trait that was always there. Had she not left, i think he may not have been as cold, but still closed off to an extent.
i dont agree with you since from my view point he wasnt so as an lone wolf but by the years he was turning on to one but when elone showed up in his life his steps were more to an a socialist person but witout Eleone he couldnt be an happy boy since for he and for the other boys of the Orphanage she was an well older sister so if she was gone the boys were sad and squall was there= Happy and Socialist Squall but without she= Sad and Arrogant and lone Wolf Squall.

Either way, I do believe Ellone leaving impacted Squall on how closed he became. He said it himself that he didn't want to get close to anyone because he was afraid of losing them.
If that is true the only one who was close to him was Ellone and he lost her. If she was still around, maybe Squall wouldn't have been so closed as he grew older.

I disagree with "Squall is the way he is because Ellone left" way of thinking.
I think Squall was prone to "loner" behavior prior to Ellone's departure. Apparently Squall had only bonded to one person--Ellone--despite being surrounded by the other kids in the orphanage. After she left, he didn't bond with the other kids.
It is my opinion that Squall would have displayed the same characteristics he did prior to meeting Rinoa even had Ellone been in the picture. Rinoa didn't take Ellone's place in Squall, she made her own place that opened up all kinds of new emotions for Squall. Rinoa was never a sister figure to Squall, she was intriguing, refreshing...something new.
