The Inheritance Trilogy is written by a young author called Christoper Paolini. He's made quite a few waves with these books and many of you will have heard of him through the release of the upcoming movie Eragon. Eragon is the first book (and already has it's own thread) in the trilogy and Eldest is the second.

I've only recently read the books due to the movie but if it was being made into a movie, then my hopes were high for the books. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. Eldest being the middle book could afford to immerse itself in more information and detail that would turn away readers in the first book. Paolini has created a rich world and makes excellent use of the English language to flesh out his world of Algaesia. I felt he striked a good balance between dialogue and description. I found both books to be slow burners in terms of plot (in particular, this book though) but it was a rewarding experience as the characters interacted and formed bonds and it also aided the obvious plot developments (which I won't mention in fear of spoiling it). Although, what I take for slow burning character development will undoubtedly mean boring to some people.

Yet, going of the regular crowd in here I'm sure you will enjoy it. I definitely recommend it.

Warning, spoilers are below for Books 1 AND 2. Read and discuss only if you've read both:

quote Spoiler
I knew Murtagh was the red dragon rider when it was revealed in battle but I never guessed they were really brothers, that shocked me. A cruel but clever twist. I really couldn't help but feel sorry for Murtagh. His (and his dragons) real names had been discovered and he had no choice but too do as he was ordered. He still showed compassion by finding a loophole in his orders and letting Eragon go.

The relationship with Arya and Eragon tensed up for sure! I didn't have her down as the queens daughter but knew there was more than she was revealing. I'm honestly not sure how this will go. I think Paolini writing them into a couple in book three would not be a good move but leaving book three on a bitter taste wouldn't work so well for a epic-like fantasy series. So I predict Arya won't make it out of the end alive =/.

What I also want to discuss is that Paolini has revealed Book Three (as yet untitled) will have a green emerald dragon on the front. I assume it's the last unhatched egg. Thing is, I can't think of who it could be. Going of the wikipedia article which has complied the scant details, Paolini said clues had been dropped! I'm racking my brains, if anyone else has any ideas, help!

I do love reading this book and I can't wait until the next one comes out. Does anyone know when it is coming out.
I'm living in Australia & I have just asked my book store when the next book will be released. The lady said they will have it in store in August.

I'm not sure about other countries so you will have to ask your book store.

Thousands of books? Such as...?

The similarities here are so blatantly obvious it's hard NOT to notice, whereas with other books, you have to actively relate them.

Just because the book follows the same archetype doesn't mean it has to be a ridiculous carbon copy...

That would be hilarious if not for the fact that if you take random similarities between thousands of books, you could do the same thing. While I do think that there are times where it seems to borrow heavily from other series, there are extensive differences which permeate each of those similarities which seem to never be taken into account by those who are reading it.

Actually I think that's going to be the first major adventure of the book. Mirroring Jabba's palace from star wars. Following him going back to Oromis and then on to the final battle.
