Wiki:
quote
As the continuation of Zeta Gundam, this series once again follows the story of the Anti Earth Union Group (AEUG) battleship Argama after Zeta's final episode. To fight off the Axis Zeon, now called the Neo Zeon, Captain Bright Noa recruits a group of teenage junk collectors led by the loudmouthed but powerful Newtype Judau Ashta to pilot the Argama's mobile suits. Now sporting a line up of the behemoth MSZ-010 Double Zeta Gundam and the returning MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, RX-178 Gundam Mk-II and Gundam-like MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki, the group is nicknamed the Gundam Team. As such, this became the first of a number of Gundam series where a team of Gundam mobile suits fight alongside each other regularly. The climax takes place at Side 3 in the Battle of Axis.

Out of the major Zeta Gundam characters, Captain Bright Noa and Axis leader Haman Karn are featured prominently in ZZ; Hayato Kobayashi, Kamille Bidan, Fa Yuiry, Wong Lee, Yazan Gable, Mineva Lao Zabi, and the children Shinta and Qum are featured in various episodes as well; Sayla Mass, who had appeared in the first series but had no speaking role in Zeta, also appeared in several episodes of ZZ; Char Aznable's planned appearance was canceled when Tomino was given the go-ahead to do the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack movie. Yoshiyuki Tomino's original plan for the show which involved Char's return was neither revealed though Glemy's sudden change in motivation seems to give a hint that he fills in for him at the end, nor does Tomino himself remember it and aside from the openings, Amuro Ray does not make an appearance in the series either.

Is it just me or is this a rarity?! I am an anime collector and I'm finding it really hard to find these DVDs. Was the series very popular? Post your thoughts.

The "UC" in G-Saviour is a parallel universe. It doesn't stand for Universal Century, rather, Utter Crap. (And it has nothing on Robot Jocks)

And I still say Anime Ja Nai is the Devil. To drown it out of memory, I have to play the Mazinger Z theme a few times. (classic song for the ages)

I usually just bash anything that has to to with this gaudy series but Id rather just fufil my duties as moderator and be informative.

ZZ Gundam consists of 47 episodes total. So far its not available in english dubbing. The first half the series as mentioned before is a more lighthearted series. While the second half features more of the gritty, darker themes that Gundam was popular for at the time. It should be noted that ZZ marks the return of Zeon as "the bad guys". And while zeon did appear in Zeta they didn't really come into any major roll until the end of the series.

ZZ Gundam's second opening theme song Silent Voice by Jun Hiroe is actually a highly reguarded opening song. I actually enjoy it myself.

I'd Check it out just for the hell of it. Seeing all that UC has to offer wouldn't hurt. ...Unless its G-saviour.

Hmm, I suppose I could get it, but I will not put it at the top of my list. This is alot of money lol, getting all this anime. But I will get them...

Regarding the post before Phantasy...Gundam Double Zeta (a.k.a Gundam ZZ) is the sequel to Gundam Zeta and was televised on Japanese TV on March 1, 1986 – March 31, 1987. It ran for 47 episodes.

I did notice a DVD on amazon.ca that had episodes 31 - 40 or something on it, but I guess it must have been just Japanese and no English dub. Hmm, the only one I seen on there too.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a waste of money. If you don't watch it under the mindset of a typical Gundam fan, I think you'll enjoy the first half. Most fans didn't like it because they were just so used to the serious war drama they have seen in Zeta. The transition from something serious to something lighthearted is not easy. As mentioned, the second half is well worth the watch, since Tomino rewrote the script to fit in for what he had planned for CCA.

Hmm, thank you all for posting. It's probably nothing more than a waste of money than. If I come across it I suppose I will pick it up but I'm not going to get it high priority.

I believe it almost had a character named Elbow Smash or somesuch. Pretty much says it all. I've heard some good things about the second half of the series. I've only seen the first three episodes though.

It's actually mid 80's, but you were close enough.

But, regarding the topic... ZZ wasn't really that popular of a series, despite being Zeta's sequel. Most fans didn't like it because the first half of the show wasn't like your typical Gundam series.

It's not even out on DVD in the US. Plus it's a pretty old series, late 1980s (I think).
