Pretty much everything you said could be accomplished without the 56 hour time crunch. It's the time crunch that makes it stupid.
I admit that we don't actually need to see what happens after he meets her. But the reason I'm saying that this is what should happen is because there's an entire season that needs to be filled with episodes, and I would prefer it if they were filled with "dating the mother" rather than "this all happens in a couple days".
So, assuming we exclude the "what happens after" aspect what they should have done was not have a ninth season at all. The wedding should have been the end of this season, as an hour long episode that comes a week after the finale we ended up with. It should have been a great big episode where all of the questions raised are resolved (Marshall and Lily's Italy/Judge thing, Robin's locket...), they get married, Ted then proceeds to take off, but just as he does he meets the mother. We then get a couple lines of dialogue from them both and finally a smile from Ted that lets you know that he's not going to Chicago because he already likes this girl.
Something along those lines would have been acceptable. Yes, I would have been sad that we wouldn't get to see their relationship develop or get to learn more about the mother. And I am glad that we will get to learn about her now in season 9. But I stand by my statement that they are doing it in the stupidest way possible.
To be honest, I just feel like anything is worth "bitching" about if you've formed a solid opinion about it. I would make a point about how I don't actually bitch about things, but I realize you only said that because you thought it might be fun to be mean to me again. At any rate, I don't see why I'm not allowed to have a heated discussion about How I Met Your Mother in a thread about How I Met Your Mother? What exactly is the point of having the thread if you're going to try and get down on people who are willing to get fanboy crazy about it?
It's not like I said my life is ruined because of how they have chosen to do season 9. There is nothing wrong with people getting serious about their favorite shows. God forbid you ever attend a convention of any kind. You'll think you've stumbled into a room full of Kaibas. So many people acting so serious about something that doesn't actually matter? Your head just might explode. It's unthinkable!
Here's some free advice for you: Don't criticize people for going more in depth about a show they like than "here's what I thought about the latest episode". There actually isn't a problem with someone expressing their dislike for a decision made by the showrunner. And there certainly isn't a need for you to come along and do everything you can to tell them why they are wrong. This is shameful behavior, TLA. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even me. And my opinion is that it's a stupid move. I will tell you right now that it is impossible to convince me otherwise. The only thing that can do that is season 9 airing on my television.
Abandon this pointless quest to eliminate any opinion I hold that differs from yours. You will not be successful.

You know what else is stupid... your entire rant. Don't worry, you're not alone. I've seen others spouting the same stupid criticisms too. You're complaining about a wedding weekend that will stretch over an entire season, when it's technically been stretched out since the end of Season 7 when Barney first got engaged and it was hinted he was marrying Quinn. And even those seeds were planted in Season 6 that Barney was going to get married. But look, the entire show's premise is on teasing who the mother is and how Ted met her. . not "How I Met Your Mother, How We Fell in Love at First Sight, How I Proposed, How We Married and How I Impregnated Her".
There's a reason the first episode and the beginning of this story starts when Ted meets Robin, because if it wasn't for her, Ted wouldn't have gone to her wedding where he met his wife. Do you really need to see Ted and the Mother's wedding? Do you really need to see the birth of their children? It's all irrelevant to the premise of the show. We're going to find out through flashbacks (and maybe a few flashforwards for jokes, since that is not uncommon with this show) and interactions at the wedding why the Mother is so great.
Ted's going to build her up so much through Season 9 to his kids, so the moment in his story when her and him finally meet (keywords there), he'll turn to his kids at present time, say to them, "And that is how I met your mother" and they're expression will be probably full of joy. The end. Because that is the entire point of the show.
Anything else is pretty insignificant since we know once he meets her, he instantly falls in love and they live happily ever after. They're going to show you this season what's so great about her, so by the time her and Ted meet, it all clicks and makes sense and you know they're meant for each other. We don't really need to see their relationship thereafter because we know it works out. I fail to see why that is such a "stupid" approach that you and others are crying about. Do you really need to see the two of them hanging out at MacLaren's Pub or Ted taking her to random buildings on a date and lecturing her about the architectural significance of why the designer chose that particular floor panel or window shape? No, you don't.
I trust Craig Thomas and Carter Bays know what they're doing at this point and any creative license they want to go with the 9th season is okay by me. They have a clear vision of where they're taking it. Was it my first choice for what I expected from the 9th season? No. But am I annoyed by it? No. Stop worrying so much over frivolous things when they haven't even aired yet, even though you're pro at bitching about frivolous things Kaiba.
