On one hot summer day in 1983, a transfer student named Maebara Keiichi comes to a peaceful rural village in Hinamizawa. There, he befriends his classmates Rena, Mion, Rika, and Satoko. Accepted as a full-fledged member of the "club," Keiichi and the gang plays all sorts of activities ranging from card and board games to hide-and-seek. People will remember that THIS was how playing used to be before the advent of video games. But just as Keiichi was beginning to be assimilated in simple rural life, he stumbles upon the dark history of Hinamizawa. Dam construction project. Violent demonstrations. Kidnapping and extortion. ARM-AND-LEG DISMEMBERMENT MURDER. As Keiichi dives deeper into the mystery, he finds that his new found friends may not be all what they claim to be.

I haven't seen that many horror/mystery anime in awhile, so I decided to pick this series up, and so far, it's great. Don't let the artwork of this anime be a turn off for you, because at first, I was a little skeptical about this as well. One moment you have your typical cute and comedy scene, then the next moment they throw you into a serious and scary scene where the character's appearance changes completely. At first I thought the cuteness might take the seriousness out of the anime, but I was wrong.

Oh I see... Well, I did expected her to be like her Umineko counterpart, as a traveler witch escaping from boredom; watching over eternal loops of time. Now, seeing that her miracles only occur as long as the probability is not zero, I had thought Miyo's death choice had something to do with her intervention. However, her direct intervention with all of the Hinamizawa events did grab me unguarded.

Isssh, I'll have to play the games to understand more of it, I guess. Anyhow, thanks for the answers.

Because the anime didn't make it clear, her inclusion was unexplained to the anime-only watchers. But she is a being who existed between the worlds of Hinamizawa. (In the original Visual Novels, each game would start and end with a poem that she wrote.)

As for the end-- No, Miyo wasn't trapped in a loop-- Bern was just visiting one of the "many worlds" that exist. She went to the source of the tragedies, when Miyo was a little girl. By choosing to "die" and accompany her parents instead of going to visit her friend, a miracle occurred, and the tragedy of her parents dying did not occur for Miyo. So by going against a fate in which she probably should have died, somehow, she didn't. (The witch of miracles herself probably had a hand in this. =P ) Though the accident still happened, Takano accompanying her parents changed fate, to a world where they live.

You might think Bern is a nice person for "aiding" the miracle. Well.....

Bernkastel intervened merely to see what kind of fate it would bring, how things would change, what kind of world would be born. So basically, all the worlds and outcomes are toys to satiate her boredom. To her, all the people in Hinamizawa are pieces with which she creates scenarios and alternate realities. (So she might be just as much the culprit as Takano is. >_> )

Just finished watching the Solutions Arcs, and after a bit of thinking I got to the conclusion that the last scene with Miyo disconcerted me a little bit. I'd appreciate if somebody could answer me a couple of questions.

Spoiler: Last scene, question 1
When Miyo stumbles across the eerie woman, at first I thought she was a reincarnation of Oyahshiro-sama. Upon inspecting in the web, I stumbled across that the woman is indeed Bernkastel, the witch that can make a miracle happen, as long as the probability is not zero. Is this true?

Spoiler: Last scene, question 2
The same eerie woman asked Miyo whether she wanted to live, or to die. If she had chosen to die, she said Miyo would get another happy meal flag. Miyo is then seen boarding the bus with her parents, and at the end she is seen storing a happy meal flag. Does that mean that Miyo was trapped in a loop similar to the Hinamizawa incident, or were their parents saved, as part of Bernkastel's "non-impossible miracles"?

mangagamer qc is pretty bad I heard, but at least it's faster than Sonozaki's translation (LETS RELEASE 1 CHAPTER EVERY 7 MONTHS)

lol, I've known people older than 18 who gets nightmares after watching this anime, I don't know why though. I mysef honestly find this anime very amusing and hilariously disturbing.

I LOVE this anime! It was like nothing I'd ever seen before.
I kinda liked all the murder. & season 1 was the best. I don't know why but for some reason I liked how everything was still unknown & how it made everyone look like the bad guy.
In all it rocked. I adore Rena. & I know I'll watch it again some day.

I agree with you XD I love this anime and can't stop watching it. But it like "what the *bleep*, why am I watching this?" xDDD
