Okay, the last thread was getting a little out-of hand, and people were just making up rules all over the place.
So I think some set rules are in order -
You may include both the story AND battle system.
You may include Sephiroth from FFVII, Advent Children and any other FFVII sequels/prequels. However Kingdom Hearts Sephiroth is not included.
You may include Seymour from FFX, FFX-2 and any other spin-offs to these games (International + Last mission, etc.)
Please do not argue or flame each other! - and if you want people to actually listen, then please provide proof, to prove the point you are trying to make.
Umm...that's all I can think of at the moment.
Continue with the "heated debate"

Thread Recap (last 10 posts from newest to oldest)
Jecht wanted that because he knew that Tidus' anger and hate would make Tidus kill him. Still, it's quite a complicated story and no one can know everything for certain besides the Squenix.
Actually, Jecth wanted to see Tidus one last time and knows that his son will end the cycle for him. Auron was an undead, so he could likely to fall to temptation (like Seymour did), Yuna and others are from Spira, so they could have doubt whether they could be able to defeat Yunalesca and Yu Yevon (the reasons why Sin kept appearing).
The one who must break the cycle must be Tidus, cos he doesn't accept unnecessary sacrifices like others could.
What about Supernova? Or do you mean he doesn't command an Aeon for Yu Yevon to manipulate?
Supernova is just a hypered Ultima spell. It does some serious damage, I agree, but he could do more if he was inside Sin.
Sephiroth doesn't have an Aeon and since he is a dead person (like Auron and Seymour) and a strong person, Sin could likely to absorb him (instead of Seymour) and he can destroy Sin from with him (by killing of Jecth). And when Jecth dies, Yu Yevon couldn't have any Aeons to manipulate, and the whole process will end.
Hmmm ... Now I think about it, why didn't Auron do the same thing? All he had to do was to kill of Jecth.
Auron wouldn't kill Jecht though, due to their friendship on the pilgrimage. Jecht wanted Tidus to kill him, right?

Super Nova isn't a summon, but whatever. Even if it were, it isn't any manner of sentient being like the Aeons, so Super Nova would explode and Yu Yevon would be screwed again.
Also, humans in FF7 are immune to gravity magic. So that's Sin's most powerful attack down the hole. Theoretically.

Let's just settle this the easy way, hmm? Sephiroth is and always will be better the Seymour.

They didn't even use Seymour as one of the villains in Dissidia.
Sin VS Sephiroth would be a better match, I think. It'd be like Sephiroth VS a WEAPON.
Agreed. Sephiroth will have a better challenge against Sin (unless he could find a way into Sin like what Tidus and others did).
Who knows, maybe he can defeat Sin and end the cycle completely (since he doesn't have a Summon which Yu Yevon needs to recreate Sin). Thus, it kind of fits the name Sin Havest (his move in Kingdom Heart) nicely.

That's a good point, Ray.
