Greeting's, I need some advice:
I am trying to play Dune 2000 on Windows XP, but I cannot get passed the first stage. Everytime I complete it and the game goes back to the "Map" I have no new options and I have not conquered any territory, and therefore have to complete the first stage over and over......

I thought that the files might be read only, but I have checked and everything looks fine.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi roughboy79, I read this post and saw you were looking for a way to get Dune 2000 working.

I Can't directly answer your question, but I can share how I eventually got Dune 2000 working.

It involved setting up a virtual Windows 95 machine in Linux, however you can also get the virtualisation software for Windows, so feel free to give it a try.

Hope you see this post, see you asked it a while ago........

Here is how I eventually got it running, properly:

I Eventually got Dune 2000 to run, properly.

No bugs, not to fast, no sound or scrolling anomalies, no hanging every couple of seconds.

I Tried it under wine, but it ran too fast, the scrolling was way too fast, even if you switch the scroll speed way down and it hanged every couple of seconds.

I Also tried in an Oracle VirtualBox Running XP and Windows 98SE, with the same issues,

I Eventually Got Dune 2000 working in openSUSE 12.2 64 bit, under a Oracle VirtualBox, running Windows 95.

Here is what you'll need:
1. Windows 95 Install Disk
2. Windows 98SE Install Disk
3. SciTech Display Driver, which can be downloaded from: 4. https://www.dropbox....ay-doctor-7.iso
5. Dune 2000 Disk

Step 1.

Setup a VirtualBox with the following settings:
Hard Drive 4GB
Memory 512MB
Enable IO APIC
1CPU
Enable PAE/NX
No CPU Throttling
Sound Set to emulate Sound Blaster 16

Do Not enable:
VT-x/AMD-V
or Nested Paging

Under the Display settings under Oracle VirtualBox, I set the share memory size to 32MB, I also enabled 3D & 2D Acceleration.

Step 2.

Start the system with the Windows 98SE Disk. (The reason for this is that the 98SE Disk is bootable, but the 95 Disk isn't)
Select Boot computer with cd-rom support.
go:
D:
cd WIN98
fdisk
create 4GB Primary Partition and set it as active.
(It should automatically set it as active)
After creating the partition, the system will reboot.

Boot with the 98 Disk again & select boot system with cd-rom support.

go:

d:
cd WIN98
format c: /S
/S to copy system files

Step 3.

Insert Windows 95 Disk into CD-Rom.

c:
md WIN95
d:
cd WIN95
copy D:\WIN95\*.* C:\WIN95 /Y
c:
cd WIN95
setup

Step 4.

Install Windows 95
Install SciTech Display Driver.
(The SciTech Download is an iso, so you can mount it like you would a cd-rom drive.
Enable SciTech Display Driver, enable driver only, do not enable any extended features.

(for more info see: https://forums.virtu...opic.php?t=9918 )
Change Resolution to 1024 x 768 16Bit

Step 5.

Install Dune2000

Step 6.

Enjoy!!!!!!

4TH>>> EDIT THE FILENAME resource.cfg and open it to notepad.... EDIT THE PATH WHERE YOU PLACED THE MOVIES DIRECTORY
5TH>>> BACKUP ORIGINAL DUNE.EXE FILE
6TH>>> CRACK THE GAME AND HAVE FUN

This reply may be coming a little late, but here goes anyway...
Go into the main directory where you installed Dune. Its usually: c:\westwood\dune2000\
Right click the "dune2000.exe" file and select "Properties". You should see an option TAB called "Compatibility". Click on that.
Under the words "Compatibility Mode" there should be a small box. Click on it so you leave a tick. You should now see the words "Windows 95" become bold. Change it to "Windows 98/Windows ME".
Now check the boxes below for running it at 256 colors and 640x480. Lastly, click on apply and you shouldn't have any problems.
I hope the above has helped.
Best regards,
Ken
