I'm sure everyone here knows what I am talking about because it's happened to everyone. You go into your guestbook one day only to see the most random of signings from some user you've never spoken to before. Now while that may not be bad (as people do get signings from users that just want to say hello or whatever), it isn't long until you find out that everyone else on neoseeker has this exact same random signing.

Now once is okay, I don't mind that, but all of a sudden it's become a craze and it's one that has finally pushed me over the edge. Take DQ Maniac for example, I've probably deleted 5 mass signings from this guy within the last 18 months (with the final straw being today). Like I said, once is enough, but 4 or 5 times is just going too damn far. If you visit any of those "how many guestbook signings do you have?" threads in Loungin' you'll find that the majority of people hate these things, the only ones who really like them are those that want to get a guestbook expansion. And why are these things done anyway? Well in about 90% of the time they are for no other reason than for the user to try and increase their own guestbook size. And these things tend to be the upmost standard of babble I have ever seen:

quote DQ Maniac
Point of advice: if you see the Burger King, call the police. He has been sighted breaking into people's homes while offering to give residents a free sandwich. Officials have confirmed that the sandwiches handed out by the king contain dangerous toxins. So beware of the king; you very well might be his next target.
I mean do all us users really have to be constantly bombarded with this crap? As more and more people catch on to this tactic, over time we might find ourselves hit daily with totally irrelevent signings. And yeah I know the whole "just delete it if you don't want it" but for some of us dial-up members its a pain in the butt to load all those pictures and everything just to see what it is. And like I said, I didn't care the first time, or the second, or third, but now it's enough. So my suggestion is to please just do away with these things entirely. If people want mass signings, then they need to stick to doing it to their neo-friends or something, but bombarding the entire site is just an annoyance and doesn't bring anything to the place.

I did... and I still find that you can still solve the problem by simply deleting them. Who cares if the person is signing 200 other guestbooks? More than half of the people here say they don't care...

I don't put any effort in my color tags... I simply press Control-V, jackass

You do have the option to delete or edit it ( one of the two, or both ), you know.. So instead of whining to the whole world, how about taking action by yourself... if you don't like it, delete it...

End of story, problem solved..
NO WAY there is a delete option? I didn't even realize that and I'be been here for 2 and a half years!!!

Maybe if you spent as much time reading the original post as you do trying to put in your color tags etc you'd have seen why I resorted to "whining" instead of making a post after CLEARLY not even reading through the thread. Thanks for your uninformed input now goodbye...

Even though the link in your Profile menu says "Edit GB entries", you can only delete them.

Maybe so but those limits include "Everyone", "Neo-Friends only" or "Nobody". Does that mean I have to put the entire forum save for like 20 people on my neo-friends list? Wow excellent idea. Try making use of something called "common sense" before you just dismiss me as some whiner...

It's "good fun" when someone does it once, but when you take it upon yourself to do it practically four times a year it crosses the line from "fun" to just straight "annoying".

Well you're pretty well known man. And this is for most well known people on Neoseeker. You are all bound to get your guestbook signed by people you don't know.

I say there should be more options in the Guestbook options. Like limiting to certain post/position ranks, amount of posts, join dates, etc.

An ignore feature doesn't seem like a bad idea, I wouldn't be one to use it likely though, but a good idea none the less.

It's meant as preliminary contact with some people.

I've met other seekers via them signing my guestbook and then spoken to them lots after.

I'm not agaist people i dont know signing my guestbook. I'm against some guy who signs 300 times in the hope of getting some back!

I got this signing as well...

^ (This is in the respone to complete removal of GB's.)

I agree with RPG. I love to look back at the early pages (when signings meant something ) and think about the old days at Neoseeker sometimes. It is cool to look at how the person was back then, and look at where they are now (Most of them super mods or high-profile moderators).

It helps remind me why I stay here. I rather have it there than some PM at the bottom of my inbox.

The only thing I think that we need for the Guestbook, is a mass delete function like we have for PM's. It would be much easier to check a bunch of boxes and hit delete then going one-by-one individually. This would also help when you get spammed by some guy who thinks it is funny to post 10 pages of kiddie porn involving a large dog. (Happened once )
