...I'm stuck on Wakka's ultimate weapon. Now, let me tell you, I hate blitzball. Even if I'm winning a game, it just gets so tedious doing the same thing for ten minutes. (that feeling only worsens when neither team is scoring) Naturally, blitz isn't something I'm doing for the fun of it; I just wanna finish up that chapter of the game and get Wakka's sigil.

Can anyone tell me the best team combination and their locations? (I mainly work with free agents)

this is where I state ive always used the original set and never lose. though it takes Datto a long lime to catch up to Tidus when they all pass over lvl 29 they are insane. but knowing how to use formation changes cuz if you dont the game notices and works around it (like 2mins of passing all over the water sphere). all you need is

Tidus:
Jehct shop
sphere shop
spin ball
(tackle tech)
ive gotten SHT stat up to 42 at lvl 23

Datto:
Tackle slip
volley shop
spin ball
(tackle tech)

then your defence just give them Venom and Wither techs and everything plays out smooth. after 4 play thru's im finally changing out players to see what happens. but giving them a chance pays off. but i love Blitzball. I solely keep FFX for it.

I did some calculations and here are the top 5 players for each position based on attribute weightings. I'm ignoring skills here, too many variables. Text in italic brackets shows the weighting for each stat, assume 0 for unmentioned.

Forwards (EN: 1.0, SH: 1.0, PA: 0.2):
  1. Larbeight
  2. Isken
  3. Vilucha
  4. Basik
  5. Argai
Defense (AT: 1.2, BL: 1.0, Pass: 0.2):
  1. Kulukan
  2. Ropp
  3. Navara
  4. Auda
  5. Linna
Mid (PA: 1.2, EN: 1.0, SH: 0.1, SP: 0.1):
  1. Mifurey
  2. Svanda
  3. Vuroja
  4. Irga
  5. Kiyuri
Goalie (CA: 1.0):
  1. Nimrook
  2. Wedge
  3. Nizarut
  4. Zamzi
  5. Raudy
If you weight each attribute the same (except for catch obviously) these are the top 5 overall best players in the game stat wise:
  1. Mifurey
  2. Linna
  3. Kiyuri
  4. Navara
  5. Vuroja

To get Nimrook, make a note of how many games he has left on his contract the count the games until he has one game left. Save before you play the next game, play an exhibition match (or whatever they're called, I forget, the ones which don't give experience), forfeit it, then see if he gets released. If he gets resigned, reset and repeat until they release him. Bit of a cheat but it works.

Currently using
Tidus
Wakka
Brother
Ropp
Kyou
Miyu

Nimrook is impossible to get on every playthrough ive ever done. He's constantly getting resigned for 20+ games.
But it doesn't really matter, I'm a collective 101-0 in my last 2 playthroughs lol.

Great post above. No love for Kulukan and Vuroja in the level 99 dream team though?
Now that you mention it, I did kind of shaft Kulukan. Can't take a hit, but doesn't really have to because she plays defence and has a great passing stat. Kiyuri and Nav are better all-round players, but Kulukan is a better defender so let's move her to LD, Kiyuri to the bench and drop Nav Guado (he was in there for his 82 BL but his AT isn't too good.

As for Vuroja... he's good, but I still have to give a slight edge to Mifurey for her speed (yes, it does improve to 68 by lvl 99) and endurance. With that said, you can't go wrong with either of them.

I believe Blitzball's a very popular minigame for the Final Fantasy franchise; some hated it but a lot of people tend to enjoy it. The little differences between the top players in the game, and how good they are at low levels vs high levels, also make for a lot of differing opinions and therefore posts.

The only thing that we can universally agree on is that Nimrook is the best goalkeeper in the game. He's not as dominant at high levels as he is at low levels (18 CA at level 1 makes him a one-man brick wall, whereas 67 CA at level 99 usually gets beaten by the top-tier strikers) but even so, his CA stat is always the highest throughout the levels. The downside is that the Psyches have him at first, making them easily the toughest team to beat early on (the rest of the Psyches also being early-game beasts doesn't help).

After that however it becomes a crapshoot. A lot of people favour Brother, which makes a lot of sense because he's fast and has a lot of great stats. By level 35-40 AT and SH are his only weak points and even they are in the low 20's. Of course from there his stat growth slows to a crawl, making speed his only saving grace by level 99, but you should have your Jupiter Sigil WAY before that happens (even if you don't use the reset trick).

Location is also important. See, ideally I would've preferred Vilucha in my team to Shaami, but Vilucha is stuck in Besaid, and I can't sign players before the Luca tournament meaning I have to backtrack all the way back to Besaid once I complete Djose Temple, or wait until the post-game and then defeat Dark Valefor (International LOVE!), which is too much effort for one player when there's an alternative in Luca. This is also the reason why Ropp in the Mi'hen Highroad is a good player to sign; his AT isn't anything special at first, but it's good enough, plus he can pass the ball well and he's available early on.

Anyway, level 99 is out of the question for all of the most dedicated Blitzball players. Without the reset trick you should have the Jupiter Sigil in no more than 50 games if you know what you're doing, but even that is roughly 14-15 hours put into just Blitzball and your player levels will still only be in the mid 30's by then (the keeper will probably be lower). So don't necessarily aim for the players that are best at level 99, instead sign players that are best in the mid-levels. I still like the looks of this team:
quote overthetop2
LF: Tidus (Start)
RF: Shaami (Luca)
MF: Zev Ronso (Luca)
LD: Wedge (Luca)
RD: Ropp (Highroad)
GL: Kyou (Djose)
By the time I won the Sigil (which was easy), Tidus and Shaami were level 37, Zev was a 35, Wedge and Ropp were 33's and Kyou was a 26.

By the way, the reset trick involves using the reset data option once you win the attack reels to immediately get to play for the Status Reels, resetting again when you win the status reels to go straight to the auroch reels tournament, and resetting a third time after the auroch reels to skip straight to the sigil league. This reduces the number of games you need to play to 26, but your player roster and levels will also reset every time and you'll have to recruit all of the FA's you want again. If you use this trick, the player's initial stats are more important than their stat growth, so just sign the players with the highest stats/levels. WARNING: if you use the reset trick Nimrook will never lose his brick wall status so make sure you have a good game plan worked out to beat him and his Psyches at low levels.

Just for trivia purposes, here's what would be my level 99 dream team (now edited to reflect OnionKnight's suggestions):
LF: Tidus
RF: Larbeight
MF: Mifurey
LD: Kulukan
RD: Ropp
GL: Nimrook
Bench: Vilucha, Kiyuri
Notable: Vujora, Navara Guado

I can't believe how many words I just wrote about a Final Fantasy minigame! Is this a bad thing?

Yeah I have recently tried a speed demon team for blitzball and its actually very effective. Brother as midfielder and put Datto and Nedus in your forward positions and you have a team that just dances around the oppositions defense. It's hella fun and works marvelously! Then use Nav Guado and Naida as your defenders who are both hella fast and have good block and attack as well. Then just whip the almighty Nimrook in your goal as always. Another great all out team as well if you love speed on your side..
