Can someone explain to me the purpose of the ending of Shenmue 2? I was really confused, and it didn't make any sense.

I believe people (Maybe the chiyoumen) were after him and he knew they were so he wrote a letter maybe before he was kidnapped and maybe killed...
That's my best guess.

u do no it a poraphcy how ever ui spell it it wirten down a boy from the east will come bla bla bla and the father knew the poraphcy was time to pass im sure the answer will be in the 3rd one if the lazy guy makes it

it was sorta like a destiny thing, you know? like, the father was just their till he finished the things, and he happened to be taking care of the girl who happened to be the one with an entwined pathed with ryo who happened to be the "western chosen one"(as I call him) you see where I am going? it kinda all falls back to the old belief that everything happens for a reason and everyone has a meaning in life. it is if they choose to follow the path is another story.

I know it was a cliff-hanger and all that, but it didn't make much sense to me. I mean, how did the girl's dad know to write a note to them? Did the father die?

it was a cliffhanger. it made oyu want more. I know I did, so I played it many times over, but I hardly ever get past the part before going to kowloon(because I like hong kong better) and i never get to the end(but I want to because the scenery is awesome.)
