I don't know tbh, there would have to be a LOT more of Kiros and Laguna, including to obtain them into the main party sooner or later. Just a new story is not enough for me to play it, there should be some challenging bosses as well. Anyway, i'm not into long stories anymore, i prefer short flashgames and mini-challenges, like beating a T-Rexaur without leaving Balamb Garden.

I just skimmed through the whole video. Same surroundings and enemies but different combinations, conversations, plot and more importantly, more of Laguna party.
I'd definitely give it a shot. Looks pretty alright for a fan-made sequel.

I am sorry to up an old topic but here there is a FFVIII-2 made by some (italian) fans...
As long as it's as good as - or better than - DoC, I'd buy it. (DoC is, IMO, the best thing in the "VII compendium".)

yo all i have to say is that if for some odd reason they did make a sequel to FFVIII it would ruin it just because i mean $hit look at how friggin confused all the final fantasy 7 fanatics are what with squeenix adding in cissnei and genesis it really screwed the story up and 8 was perfect and i see absolutely no reason to have a prequel or sequel btw i may have ff7 written all over my profile but ff8 was the best ff by far so with that being said no remake ftw

FF8 was one of my favourite games, and stories. But I'm not so sure about whether I personally would like a sequel-it's one of the few stories where I am fairly content with the happily ever after ending. But there are a few possible games I'd really like to play based on the FF8 world:
1) An rts game of the Sorceress War. The main factions would be Galbadia and Esthar, although I suppose you could probably play as Balamb, Dollet, etc. I really liked the Galbadian soldiers-how can you not like futuristic swordsmen?! And I think the inclusion of magic, monsters, robots, etc, would make for a unique strategy game.
2) A Laguna fps/rpg. Enough said.
3) A sequel set twenty or so years in the future. Similar rpg style game to the original, but with different characters (although I can imagine an old and wisened Seifer joining the group of young adults). The playable characters from the original have grown up-Squall has married Rinoa, Irvine has married Selphie, Quistis is probably headmistress of Balamb Garden or something, and Zell...I dunno, he's probably just another legendary SeeD member. One or two of the new characters would be the child of Squall and Rinoa or Irvine and Selphie. Not exactly sure what the plot would be, but it wouldn't overshadow the plot of the original game-otherwise, the happy ending is completely ruined. The aim of the sequel would primarily be to explore something only mentioned in the original and tie a few knots.
But anyway, right now I'm hoping for an FF8 film. Usually, I prefer books to films, but, for me at least, the music and visuals of FF8 make it FF8-there are tons of stories that could be interpreted similarly to a book version of FF8, but no game or story can be properly compared to the game, and I imagine the same would be the case with an FF8 film. Or I could just be insane.

Sorry I should have been more specific, when I said they should be dramatically different I meant in terms of story, situation and the personal development of the characters. Yes the gameplay in FF10-2 was dramatically different but the characters and the setting all just felt like going over the same ground. This IMO is what caused the plot to be especially weak. They didn't have a new direction for the characters and world of Spira. FF10-2 can be summed up in one sentence 'This is what everythings like now a few years later'.

Sequels IMO should be dramatically different to the original.
That is so not true, they should at least be a little alike. Isn't that why people, not me, but people hate FF10-2, because it was so different.
In a sequel to o FF8, I want a different kind of story. The whole love thing was good, and well done, but I want other characters to be important. I also want it to be turn based, and not like FF12. I hatethe way they ruined that game.
