It is an Awesome game!
Don't get me wrong the controls are irritating and the gameplay is repetitive, but the game has length and depth. The weapons are many, but similar in reality.
The great points about this game are storyline- if you like the series this explains the past events before Soul Reaver, although another prequel of Soul Reaver could still be made. You can't beat vampire rebel groups fightning evil beings from another dimension, throw in a few fallen angels and some ugly mishappen creatures and you have a unique and awesome game-story!
Another good point is the abilities- this saves the gameplay slightly, Kain's various abilities drive you onwards through the stages!
Great game, not the best PS2 game by far, but recommended to early adventure-fantasy/hack-and-slash fans. Great series!

Some people say it is but really, that is their opinion. It only matters what you think.

It is the worst of the series BUT it is still very worth playing imho.
Yes it lacks the innovation and originality of the first BO and the soul reaver games but it's still a great game in it's own right. It's better than many games of other series that you probably already own.

Come to think of it, I really don't know how I could play the whole game like 2-3 times! Damn I really didn't want to study at that time!
20$ is a good price, but I agree you can find it even cheaper at some other place! I'm sure you can find it at 10$... And never forget to save on plenty of different slots since the game often crashes!

This game is pretty rough at quite a few points.
So much so in fact, that if it wasnt a big part of the Legacy of Kain mythology, most people probably wouldnt bother with it.
Story, and presentation are the only things that save this title from being a pure failure. The controls, and general gameplay could have been much better than they are. They are choppy, and really repetetive.
Worst part about it, you dont get the soul reaver until the final battle in the game. There is a code that will get you the Reaver, but then you are also stuck in the same outfit for the entire game.
There needed to be more variation in the weapons. The weapons are basicly a generic 3 hit combo, and a move that can be done through a grab. Either a beheading, A big smash, or impaling. And most times, simply impaling someone doesnt even kill them, odd as that sounds.
I pick up a townsperson, stab a sword completely through him, and he gets up and runs away.
If you like the story, it is a must have, because it ties in to the story in a big way, especially with the release of "Defiance". The Blood Omen 2 storyline is much more understandable after you play defiance.

True, it does cover some pretty major events in the series, but the game kinda sucks. The gameplay isn't terribly impressive and the plot plays out like a really bad episode of the Outer Limits, but with vampires. If you're already a fan of the other games, I'd half-heartedly say go for it (but I'd also suggest trying to find it even cheaper).
Better yet, track down a copy of the original Blood Omen. Now that's a great game!

If you're a HUGE fan of Legacy of Kain series, then you should get it because it has a lot of major storyline bits that will help you understand the series better. But the gameplay is crap. The controls are crap. The storyline is crap. In fact, a lot of it is crap. But if you really want to find out about certain story-bits then you should probably rent it or buy it cheap.

If nothing else, Kain is probably the most ruthless and cold in this one. That tone of his is at its peak right here. I can't quite put my finger on it... Just that bloodthirsty contempt for anything and everything that isn't him. It's great - I love that voice.
