can you pc experts tell me what determines how fast and good a pc is for playing games? i thought it was just processor speed, ram, and the video card but i read the apple g5 thing out of curiosity cuz it supposedly fastest computer in the world but i didnt understand anything it said =(. i thought the processor speed would be really high but its only 2ghz which makes me wonder what it is good for anyway?

Hey, if you need a new video card that's pretty good, I got a GeForce 5200 128 MB for $70 which is a good price I was told. I got it off the special sales at newegg.com. The only bad part about it is the noisy fan. I'm going to buy a chipset cooler to replace that fan though. The chip set coolers are $10-20.

Take at look at This Place it may explain more about what bus speed is, how important it is, etc.
Although it says for Petinums.. Still they should be related since they are both Computers.

ok, but on that mac g5 thing they kept bragging about the bus speed or something, does that have anything to do with speed? and i had the exact same situation as u did earlier mod =) i was playing madden2003 at a slow motion pace and thought it was normal until i got a new comp, it was like a new game =D

Also remember that Apple computers run the Mac OS so they can't play any PC games so it would be totally useless.
The gaming OS of choice right now is either WinXp Home/Pro or Win2k Pro.

For games those are normally the main things you need: Processor Speed, Ram, and a Video Card.
Processor speed is very important for most games, as it will help the game speed improve. If a game requires 900MHZ and you only have 600MHZ then expect the game speed to very quite slow.
For Ram that also determines the game speed. Have you ever played a game where you have good GHZ speed, just decent ram, and a good video card? And have you ever noticed the game sometimes jerk or stop for a second and then go again, basically lagging for a spilt second? Most likely thats because of the Ram. If you have everything else good and your ram is low then thats probably whats causing the jerking or stoping.
Now the Video Card.. For games this is probably the most important part of it all-- that is if your other specs are good enough to handle the card, and they are at least the min Specs. A Video card can GREATLY boost your games speed.. For example I played the PC game CC Generals with a 2.4GHZ, 256 DDR Ram, Geforce 2 mx video card and it ran on a slower speed while in Single player, and it ran very slow while online. Then I got a Geforce 4 ti4200 card and put that into my Computer. Once I started up Generals I already noticed the main menu screen was flying by at a nice speed. Once I started the Single player game and I moved my Dozer to build a structure it moved at a race car speed compared to the old one! The game was so much faster I couldn't belive it. I always that that "slow motion" speed was the speed it was suppose to be-- but I found out later it was just my computer not being able to handle it with a lower video card.
Although the game wasn't fully lag free in online games and still had a "stop for a spilt second and lag every now and then" process. So when I got a extra 256 ram stick it made it 512 DDR Ram. Now it plays much more smoother than it did before, although not as much difference as the Video Card made.
But before deciding whether or not you need a new video card make sure of this: Is your processor speed even fast and up to date to make the new video card even worth it? Don't buy the best video card out there on the market with only a 600MHZ computer or else it won't even help much. And for nowdays games a good amount of Ram is AT LEAST 256 DDR Ram. Since some games are starting to require 256 Ram.. A good idea would be to get 512 or more.
And it depends on the games you play too. If you plan on playing the future games then a good processor, ram, and video card is a must.
Other then that there isn't much more needed.. A good monitor actually may help the graphics since some can't handle them very well.
And Windows 95 isn't the best for games anymore.. Its getting old and some games aren't playable with it.
Any other questions ask here.
