quote Praetorian_LordHa that's true! The first series is really quite wonderful though. I'd recommend giving it a try once you've finished the book; if nothing else but to see what you think of the adaptation!I just google image search them Mouldy Cheese if I want a face to put with the name. Best of both worlds!
quote MaChaoTheSplendidHopefully! I'd really like to see them play a larger part as they're really quite different to the rest of the seven kingdoms. Particularly loved the idea of the Water Gardens.I always quite liked them too. I'm not sure how important they'll be later on, or which way they'll swing tbh. I really liked the Viper and Doran. Quentyn.. not so much.
I wanted to know more about Dark Star too, though there's always the chance he'll pop back up later on.
quote Mouldy CheeseI always quite liked them too. I'm not sure how important they'll be later on, or which way they'll swing tbh. I really liked the Viper and Doran. Quentyn.. not so much.Am I the only one who was really fascinated by the Dornish? They've only ever been touched upon (well, usually just the mention of dornish wine) and it really seems like over the last couple of books their story has really begun building up.
quote Praetorian_LordThe books are better than the tv shows, although one thing I will say for it is that it really, really helps when it comes to remembering all the characters. Being able to see them on screen and going "Ohhh that guy" is quite handy! In the later books I had to keep flicking back to that list of characters to try and remember who they were, although I was always afraid that there would be spoilers in another name...Overall the books give you a lot more background to the local legends and events than the tv series, which focuses more on the present.I'm about halfway through Book 1 having picked it up a couple of weeks ago. Really enjoying it but want to add my voice to those who say that there seem to be way more characters than you can possibly remember.
Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I'm not really interested in the TV show since I imagine they'll have gone with the modern tendency of focusing far too much on fight scenes and sex scenes than characterisation and politics.
quote madewaleLet us know what you think!I am going to take this one , the next time I am going to the library. After going through the thread, I just feel like I really do need to read this one. I like lord of rings series and anything which is similar to that one, would be something that i would look forward to read. Hope I get this one soon !
