January 22, 2003 - We all knew it was coming, but now it's official: Samus will star on the silver screen. Today, film industry trade publication Variety is reporting that Zide/Perry Entertainment has obtained the rights to produce the official Metroid movie. Producers Warren Zide and Craig Perry are best known for their work bringing the American Pie and Final Destination flicks to audiences around the world. The duo is now teaming-up once again to bring the beloved Nintendo franchise into theaters everywhere. Samus now joins the ranks of Mario and Pikachu as Nintendo characters transformed into movie stars.
No release date has been set at this time as the project is still looking to bring writers and directors on board. Variety also mentions vague story details, which Metroid fans can probably already surmise: Metroids are discovered on SR388, and Samus, an intergalactic bounty hunter extraordinaire, is sent in to investigate. She soon encounters the evil Space Pirates and their plan to harness the power of these parasites and dominate the galaxy. Just imagining such a favorite plot unfolding in film form is enough to keep any Metroid fan happy until the movie is finally released.
Pretty sweet eh?
I know I posted this in the Movies forum as well, The Living Angelus, but I posted it in here since it was related to Metroid. Hope its okay with you.

I would be what you call a fanatic, but i have been waiting for 7 years. And this stupid movie isnt on any thing. Excpet the game sites. I dont think there is going to be a movie. However i did read on one site that it is supposed to come out in 2010. Great a like a whole nother year of waiting. Just fricken fantastic. But being the fan that i am, I will wait for this. I just hope they dont screw it up with all that stupid crap, that Metroid isnt known for. However i think the hardest part their going to have with this movie is Samus talking. She doesnt say anything in like the games. There is noone for her to even talk to. What do they have to her talk to herself? I dont know. We'll see

I don't think that direct story movies are the way to go (what I mean are movies based solely on the events of the games). I recently saw the new Star Trek and it is a perfect example of how fresh ideas combined with great (although, perhaps well used) material can bring back a dying plot. Metroid needs to do the same, just like Marvel, Star Trek and GI Joe have, revitalize by appealing to general audiences. If they make a movie, the'll get the Metroid fans no sweat.
I believe a story with great potential would be the back-story to the "green" crew of the Valhalla. You could still incorporate the interactions (romance, small conflict between protagonists, etc.) that modern movies use so heavily while complimenting the Metroid timeline. Everyone is happy!

The first thing that crossed my mind when I read your question: Master Chief XD
also if they make a movie they might add a new character that Samus falls in love with.
