and another potential issue is you won' t be able to test the parts for faults and stuff, by the time u get to test the system, ur warranty might have run out so you cant have it replaced or returned

I dont advise it either. Prices constantly change (usually they go cheaper) all the time and new products come out. You'll pay more in shipping and by the time you can finally use it, it will already be a bit outdated.

For example, if you went and bought an intel processor right now it may be outdated in just a few months because Haswell (their next line/architecture) will be coming out soon.

Just save up your money and buy it all at once.

i wouldnt advise it at all. if you dont get it all in one go, you will end up paying more in shipping. if you wait until you can buy it all at once, shipping is cheaper, and waiting that extra time might allow you to find newer/cheaper hardware.

I'm thinking of building a new pc (beginner) I don't have the budget to order all the parts now. How advisable is it to build a PC over time (2-4 months)

The build is for a gaming machine.
