Southend United are ready for the new season which kicks off tomorrow night, When Southend United play Watford in the Capital One Cup, Blues will face Gianfranco Zola and his mighty Watford side from Vicarage Road with names like Fernando Forestieri, Almen Abdi worth 8 million between them, Waford from the championship are a very strong side, Southend will have to be at there very best tomorrow night. But Paul Sturrock the Blues manager said the npower League 2 is the most important task this season. The time has come to lift southend out of the lower Leagues and bring some decent football to the town.

Southend United were in full control of this League match at Roots Hall, Ryan Hall hit the cross bar after just 3 minutes, With Southend having there own way for most of the half Ben Tozer brought down Mark Philips, Ben Tozer was given a straight red, But Tozer had to be removed from the pitch by the stewards. Then with Northampton down to ten men they soon felt the force of the blues, As Freddy Eastwood scored on 38 minutes with a 20 yard drive. Then in the 2nd half Ashbee made it 2-0 to the Blues on 62 minutes with a great header from 5 yards. A good 3 points at home, Next up are Burton Albion at home.

Roots Hall had just 1,446 spectactors watching this St Johnstones paint Trophy first round clash. Blues scored there first goal on the 20th minute with a fantastic drive by Lauri Dalla Valle, It wasnt long before Freddy Eastwood made it 2 -0 with a header from ten yards in the 24th minute, Deep into the 2nd half on the 66th minute Mark Philips made it 3-0 to Southend with an easy tap in from 2 yards, Think the Barnet keeper went on a walkabout. Southends fourth goal was blasted in by Matty Whichelow, Barnet looked hopeless. Southend are away too Stevenage in round 2.

SOUTHEND 3 - 0 EXETER CITY
Southend United kicked off in front of a huge crowd of 6,415 here at Roots hall. This match was a tight game possession equal on both sides, Southend struck there first goal right on half time with Matty Wichelow smashing ball past Artur Krysiak with shot from 15 yards. It got better for blues when Ryan Hall doubled the lead with a right footed strike from 20 yards, Ryan Hall is just playing better and better with every match, This man will go to a bigger side one day that for sure, A Mark Philips header on 81 mins made it 3-0 to Southend, Exeter were dead and buried here but blues had played incredible, Ryan Hall won man of the match.
Southend play Barnet next at home in the St Johnstones Trophy first round. Then there next Npower League 2 match will be at home to bottom side Northampton Town.

Southend play Exeter City here at home next saturday, The groundsmen have been working very hard to clear the water of the pitch, There been heavy rain in Essex the last few days. Southend have taken Freddy Eastwood off the transfer list, The club decided they still need his services. Neil Harris has been transfer listed instead.

READING 2 - 0 SOUTHEND UNITED
Southend went into this match as underdogs, But for the first 25 minutes the blues had all the possession and made Reading look quite ordinary. Reading scored there first goal thanks to Ryan Leonard missed placed clearence in the box, Which fell straight to Adam Fondre who had an easy chance from just 4 yards. Southend were playing with new tactics for this match 5-4-1 with counter and holding possession, Which worked for long periods of time. But Reading made it 2-0 with a diving header from Gordon McCleary in the 34th minute from a cross from Micky Shorey, So with it being half time here at the Madjestic Staduim Reading were 2-0 up and looking on top. The 2nd half was pretty quite but the possession was shared by both teams, There were no real chances for either teams and the match finished with Reading winning 2-0 in front of 12,812 fans, Southend can now look forward to playing in the Npower League 2 with game next at home to high flying Exeter City.

OXFORD UNITED 3 - 2 SOUTHEND UNITED
Southend arrived at the Kassam Staduim full of confidence looking for a much needed win, Freddy Eastwood gave Southend an early lead on 6 minutes with a powerful shot which slid under The Oxford keeper. The travelling southend fans were delighted at the quick lead they had gained. Oxford replied with a goal on 33 minutes a tremendous drive by Jake Forster- Caskey gave Paul Smith little chance. It got worse for the away side when bieli Mohsni failed outside the box, Which gave Oxford a free kick, Tony Capaldi launched the ball over the wall and straight into the net. Southend were 2-1 at half time with a mountain to climb to gain all the points here. Southend started the 2nd half well with most of the possession, Ryan hall took a corner on 55 minutes which floated in the box for Freddy Eastwood just to tap in the goal, But somehow he smashed the ball out of the ground a shocking miss.With time running out and just 15 minutes on the clock Lauri Dalla Valle ran at the Oxford defence then unleashed a thunderous shot that went sailing past Ryan Clarke the Oxford keeper, The scores were level with 15 minutes till full time. Oxford had a corner in the 78th minute the ball arrived in the box, There was a mixup with the southend defenders the ball eventually came off Ryan Hall and floated into the empty southend net, The Southend players were stunned by the own goal with just 11 minutes remaing till full time, Blues failed to come back into the match as Oxford kept possession till the final whistle.
